A beautiful smile is worth million dollars and only a few are lucky to have this gift. However, every individual can get this gift and sport a confident smile with a little effort. All they need to do is take good care of their teeth and prevent it from any disorders and unhealthy elements. To avoid poor dental hygiene and below par teeth it is vital that individuals take clean their teeth regularly and use proper tools as well as focus on their daily diet. As is well known, to have healthy and strong teeth, it is especially imperative to reduce the amount of sweets in the diet.
Caution for the Sweet Tooth
Sweets are considered to be the biggest enemies in having healthy and strong teeth. This is especially a warning for those who have that big sweet tooth and cannot control themselves for having a sweet daily. Sweets can have extreme adverse effect on the health of the teeth and excess intake of sweets can make the teeth weak and even cause decay. There are bacteria present inside the mouth that get deposited on the surface of the teeth in the form of plaque. When an individual eats sweet foodstuffs the sugar reacts with this plaque and gets converted into acid. This acid is harmful for the health of the teeth as it dissolves the teeth enamel. Teeth enamel refers to the white coating that is present on the teeth. This results in the creation of cavities, which if not filled in time can lead to great problems.
It is important that individuals avoid or atleast keep the sugar intake to a minimum. They must especially avoid chewy sweets as they remain for a long time inside the mouth and cause greater amount of acid to be created. Dentists advise that individuals must eat sweets in the form of desserts, that is, just after dinner. This allows the individual to enjoy the sweets as well as they can remove the acids by brushing the teeth immediately. Also, individuals must use fluoride toothpaste in order to get rid of any acids and germs that might have been created as a result of their consumption of sweet foodstuffs.
It is difficult to say no to your favorite piece of chocolate cake or candy bar. However, this is important to keep the teeth strong and healthy for the future.
