The most common is stress over the body. In case of arthritis the stress has more to with the physical stress i.e. the weight of the body.</p>
<p>To control and to curb arthritis it is very important to control body weight. Excess body weight adds pressure on the joints of the bones thus making them stiff and weak. The stress mainly arising at the hips, knees, and ankles leads to arthritis. There are various ways in which the stress over these key joints can be eliminated.</p>
<p>Control body weight</p>
<p>To control weight, following a proper diet is very important. Food habits play a crucial role in weight control. To prevent unnecessary weight gain it is recommended to control the intake of excess carbohydrate and sugars. Carbohydrates normally if not burned they get converted in fats which add weight to the body. Thus one should reduce the intake of fatty and oily foods to control weight thus reduce the stress on the joints and the body.</p>
<p>Exercising</p>
<p>Exercising is a great way of reducing stress over the body. There are various forms of exercises that not only help to control the body weight but also make the bones stronger and supple. Exercising reduces the stiffness between the joints thus preventing arthritis from aggravating. Yoga is great exercise for those suffering with arthritis. This form exercise has special postures also called as asana, which help to control and cure arthritis. Yoga along with being a exercise also a treatment.</p>
<p>Stress is the most detoriating factor for arthritis. To get rid of arthritis quickly it is very important for a person to get rid of stress. No sure is just based on medicine, and in case of disorders such as arthritis there is always a chance of reoccurrence. Reliving stress over the body, is the right approach to prevent reoccurrence.</p>

<p>Types of Joint Pain</p>
<p>Osteoarthritis of the hip can cause pain majorly when the hip has to bear weight. The pain is felt in the front part of the groin and sometimes in front of the thigh and buttock. It may spread downwards toward the knee. Those with physically stressful lifestyle are more prone to hip joint pain. The joint pain in hips is more seen in the Caucasians than the Africans, though the reason is not known. The Knee is the greatest weight bearing joint and the most affected by osteoarthritis. The Knee joint pain can make it difficult to walk or even minor movement is restricted. Pain shows up usually after the age reaches 50 and on the front and sides of the knee. Joint pain of the knee is more in women than men. The Hand joint pain is prevalent among the Caucasians. It is usually seen among women after menopause when the age is 40-50. It is seen at the joint at the end of fingers and the base of the thumb. The painful joints become small, bony and firm. The swelling at the tips of fingers are called Heberden&#039;s nodes and at the middle joints of fingers the Bouchard&#039;s nodes. These nodes increase the pain. In the foot, osteoarthritis causes pain in the joint at the base of the big toe. With time the toe may bend and develop bunions. The joint may become rigid and walking painful. Osteoarthritis of the spine is found in the neck and back. It is called spondylosis. It is detected by X-rays and only sometimes causes pain and stiffness in the spine joints. In fact back pain is rarely caused by osteoarthritis of the spine.</p>
<p>Remedies over Joint Pain</p>
<p>Exercise, medicines and walking aids may reduce hip pain and improve movement. When the pain is severe, Hip replacement is advised. Losing weight, painkillers or knee replacement can be used to assuage knee pain. Medication or heat therapy is used to alleviate the Hand joint pain.</p>

<p>Remedies</p>
<p>The Romans, French and the British used paraffin wax as a heat-inducing introduction to massage. Paraffin therapy provides lubrication and removes the excess fluid from surrounding tissue. In this way it reduces pain and stiffness of the joints. Paraffin efficiently heats the tissues and muscles offering reduction in pain and softens and moisturizes the skin. It also increases the blood circulation of the area under treatment and traps the moisture from under the skin. When blood flows easily, it moves out of the swollen area fast and doesn&#039;t accumulate in the swollen tissue. The significant method to reduce arthritis pain and inflammation is to reduce the quantity of fat in the diet. Turmeric is a very potent anti-inflammatory substance. Boswellia and Ginger are also anti-inflammatory remedies. Protein digesting enzymes and anti-oxidants, which contain Vitamin C and E, should be taken. Supplements of glucosamine and Chondroitin are particularly useful for sufferers of osteoarthritis. For those whom anti-inflammatory drugs trouble the stomach, the use of licorice root and peony root relieves pain. <p>Properties and use</p>
<p>Emu oil does not have any side effects. It provides an Arthritis Pain Reduction when used continuously for 14 days. It provides an Arthritic Swelling Reduction when used perpetually for 17 days. It has unique therapeutic features. It is highly moisturizing, skin softening and revitalizing. It does not make the skin greasy. It is proved that this oil is the deepest and fastest penetrating oil. So, it is used as a trans-dermal carrier for moisturizers or therapeutic constituents. It carries these products deep inside the skin. It is non-poisonous and does not block pores. The oil is anti-inflammatory and effects can be compared with ibuprofen. <p>Arthritis as is a major problem amongst the masses so obviously there are several solutions to this problem. Amongst all the solutions wearing proper footwear is the most basic solution. We seldom care about these small things but we forget that even small things can create a lot of problems. As we know that arthritis is primarily attached to our joints so anything or any activity that affects our joints is a friend of arthritis and will contribute in aggravating this problem.</p>
<p>Now one might wonder that how wearing proper footwear will help us in avoiding arthritis. Rather we can take it in this way that how improper footwear will harm us. It is one of the most important factors so as to avoid arthritis. While exercising it is suggested that you should wear sturdy supportive shoes. Athletic shoes are preferable over normal shoes. You can even check yourself whether your shoes are proper or not by following the simple procedure. Place your shoes on a table or counter at eye level and determine if the soles are worn on the outside or the inside edges. If the soles have worn out then exercising with those shoes will overstress your joints and will thus cause arthritis.</p>
<p>So we can see that how even small things can affect our joints and lead to conditions that will cause arthritis.</p>

<p>Aspirin discovery:</p>
<p>The scientists successively found the evidences of a chemical called the salicin in the bark of the willow tree. However when isolation of salicin was done it was found that the compound was very noxious to the stomach and made it almost impossible for oral ingestion. It was only after 80 years, in the year 1897 that an employee of the Bayer Company a dye production unit named Felix Hoffman discovered a proper isolation method of salicin that made the chemical less irritating to the stomach. This gave birth to the legendary drug called the Aspirin and today it is believed that more a trillion of these tablets were sold across the world.</p>
<p>Usage of kneecap for arthritis:</p>
<p>The kneecap also known by the name of patella plays a significant role in maintaining the balance and structure of the legs as well as the entire human body. Especially in the cases of Osteoarthritis the kneecaps are the parts of the body that is affected most. The knee joint is the intersection point where the thighbone meets the shinbone and is covered by a thick layer of cartilage tissues that promotes smooth movements of the two bones without any friction. Upon the development of arthritis in the kneecaps this layer of cartilage starts roughening and eventually fades. As a result the bones in the joint cannot move without friction and starts paining severely. Fortunately the treatment of arthritis of the kneecaps is possible even though at present no drugs have been found to proven to stop the symptoms of Osteoarthritis completely. Doctors recommend the usage of painkillers and anti-inflammatory medicines and topical creams to help ease the pain for the removal of the stiffness of the bones.</p>

<p>Nicotine Replacement Therapy</p>

<p>One way to reduce pain is to build life around wellness, not pain or sickness. Good posture is key to minimizing the stress on joints as well as the spine. To stand with good posture keep feet 12 inches apart, with the outside of the feet forming two parallel lines. Keep weight evenly distributed between both feet and keep shoulders drawn back and down to lift and broaden chest. The chin should be parallel with the ground. To help keep good posture imagine a string attached to the top of the head gently lifting you up. Losing weight can take pressure off of the knees. The more pressure on the joint the more pain and the faster the joint deteriorates. Losing just 10 pounds can take about 30 pounds of pressure off the knees while walking. Sleep restores the energy so that one can better manage pain. It also rests the joints to reduce pain and swelling. Most people need seven to nine hours of sleep per night. If someone feels tired and achy after lunch every day, taking a brief nap can help restore your energy and spirits.</p>

It originated in China thousands of years ago and is based on the theory that an essential life energy called qi which means soul, flows through the body along invisible channels, called meridians. When the flow of qi is blocked or goes out of balance, illness or pain results. Stimulation of particular points along the meridians can accurate the flow of qi to restore or optimize health or to block pain.</p>
<p>How acupressure works for arthritis?</p>
<p>Traditional Chinese medicine is based on the belief that an essential life force called soul or qi flows through the body along channels called meridians. These meridians are like rivers that watering the body and nourish its tissues. Any obstruction along one of the meridians is like a dam that blocks the essential energy flow, creating pain and disease.</p>
<p>The incorporation or insertion of hair-thin needles into specific points along the meridians is thought to help unblock the blocked energy channels. There are more than 2,000 points on the body. If meridians exist, scientists have found it hard to locate them. They do not correspond to the pathways of the nervous or circulatory system. That does not mean that acupressure does not work. <p>Practice</p>
<p>The practitioner places his hands on 12-15 different parts of the body. The hand either touches the body or is held a couple of inches above the body. The time, for which it is held, changes from 2-5 minutes. All the positions can be completed in 1.5 hour. A feeling of warmth, relaxation or refreshment is experienced during the session. Reiki can be practiced without side effects or overdose. It is considered that the body utilizes the natural energy wherever it is required the most. Lourdes Gray is said to have used Reiki to treat degenerative diseases like arthritis. John Gray writes that the movement of energy revives the body cells. <p>In the First Degree Certification, there are four energy attunements. Also how to place hands on self and other people in contact with self can be learnt. After 3 weeks the Second Degree Certification can be learnt. In it 3 Reiki Symbols for long distance healing are taught. This degree increases the energy level ten times and the person becomes an official practitioner. After another 3 weeks, the person can receive the Master Symbol. It increases the energy level hundred times.</p>

If the cause can be determined, the case is called &#034;Secondary arthritis.&#034; The various causes are obesity, trauma, abnormal joints at birth, diabetes, gout and chronic trauma. Excessive weight is the second leading cause, after aging, for osteoarthritis of the knees. It raises the stress on the cartilage. Repetitive shocks to the joints (eg. Knees of football players) also lead to osteoarthritis. In gout, Uric acid crystals and in pseudogout, Calcium Pyrophosphate crystals lead to deterioration of cartilage. Some have irregular joints from birth which are susceptible to wear and tear and early breakdown of cartilage. Diabetes and hormone disorders also lead to osteoarthritis.</p>

<p>Diagnosis</p>
<p>Osteoarthritis can be detected by an X-ray. Disappearance of the space between bones of a joint and appearance of bone spurs indicate the disease. Arthrocentesis implies analysis of the joint fluid using a sterile needle. It is useful to detect gout and infection. Arthroscopy implies insertion of a viewing tube in the joint space. Irregularities and breakdown of the cartilage is detected and may be repaired by using an arthroscope. A comprehensive study of the location, duration and features of the joint is necessary for diagnosis.</p>
<p>Remedial Measures</p>
<p>Exercise, when performed aptly, reinforces the muscles around the joints. It enhances joint movement and reduces weight. Application of heat before exercise and of cold packs after exercise helps to assuage inflammation. Swimming, Walking and Stationary cycling are recommended. Other remedies include taking pain killers (like aspirin and Tylenol), using mechanical support devices, surgery and avoiding activities which could stress the joint.</p>

<p>Darker side of the steroid drugs:</p>
<p>The potential effect of corticosteroids can result in serious side effects that resemble a malfunction of the adrenal glands causing it to overproduce cortisol. The list of other possible side effects of the corticosteroids administered during arthritis is long and mainly includes risks of acquiring high blood pressure, diabetes, swelling and edema, cataracts, acne, muscle weakness, stomach ulcers and many more. Mostly when used for a short-term treatment, the steroid drugs are usually prescribed at a very moderate dose and reduced or tapered over a one two period weeks. The main purpose of this is to achieve a sudden improvement in the symptoms. The administration of a long-term therapy is usually reserved for severe cases rheumatoid arthritis and other related diseases. The higher dosages of steroids are given occasionally for the most rare and the most severe cases of the inflammatory disease.</p>

Other than this significant factor many arthritis patients who are suffering from diabetes at the same time may face several renal effects as well as gastrointestinal bleeding upon the administration of steroids.</p>

<p>Method of Use</p>
<p>It consists of an electric wire placed in an appropriate fabric. When current passes through the wire, it gets heated. This heats the fabric. In turn, the skin is heated. Some varieties have an overheat protection system. If absent, it is necessary to check the signal for overheating. The device can be used for all body parts, but is specially used for the neck or back. The heat should be comfortable. It should not feel, as if the skin is being burnt. We may add some towels between the blanket and body. The body part being heated becomes red and sweaty. Before reapplying all redness should disappear. Do not sleep on the electric blanket. Heat temperature should not be in excess of 45 degrees i.e. 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Greater temperature leads to tissue damage.</p>

<p>Some Electric Blankets are made of 100% polyester and can provide warmth in seconds. After 30 or 45 minutes, a timer automatically switches off the heating. They have a large size, which can cover a couple. There is a 7 feet cord, which enables to use it on the back seat of the car. Other Electric Blankets are made of 100% Acrylic material. They come in various sizes of Twin, Full, Queen and King. After some hours, the heating automatically shuts off. They provide therapeutic warmth. They can be washed and dried in a machine. Some Electric Blankets are made of Smooth Soft 100% Micro-fleece polyester. The heating wires are so small that they cannot be felt by touch. They operate on voltage of less than 25 volts. They are the lightest electric blanket and can retain their original size after washing. They provide warmth in less than 15 minutes.</p>
