Vision in early cataracts can be improved by changing the prescription of your eyeglass, or by using a magnifying lens, or stronger lighting for close work. However if the interference caused by cataracts are intense wherein it affects your everyday lifestyle such as reading, working, or driving. Cataract surgery is needed to correct that.

Cataract surgery is the most effective and commonly performed surgical procedure in the United States. Patients who undergo cataract surgery experience improved vision after the surgery. There are two procedures in cataract surgery. These are the phacoemulsification and the extracapsular surgery.

Phacoemulsification

Phacoemulsification is the most common cataract surgery procedure. Small incision is made on the cornea's side and a tiny probe is inserted into the eye. In today's technology, laser probe or ultra sound is used to break the lens without harming the capsule. The debris is then suctioned for removal. A foldable intraocular lens (a clear, artificial lens that becomes a permanent part of the eye once inserted) is then inserted through the small incision. It then unfolds once the intraocular lens is inside the capsule. The incision is self sealing so no sutures are needed for this operation and the risk of astigmatism and rapid pressure changes within the eye are minimized. Phacoemulsification obtains best results if the patient is within the early stage of cataract. Phacoemulsification does not require special preparation though the measurement of your eye's length and corneal curvature is essential in calculating the power of the intraocular lens that is to be inserted in your eyes. An estimated ninety percent of patients who undergo phacoemulsification attain a better vision.

Extracapsular Surgery

This type of cataract surgery requires a long incision in the cornea. The len's hard center is removed in one piece while the rest of the lens is suctioned. The natural lens is removed and replaced with an intraocular lens (made of silicon, or a type of plastic known as PMMA, or acrylic). Multiple sutures are needed to fasten the eye after surgery. The sutures must be tight to prevent astigmatism. Light is then able to pass through the retina thus improving the vision. After this type of cataract surgery the patient usually sees a blue tint around everything they see, this is because the cataract, before it was removed, blocks colors such as blues and violets. When the cataract is removed, the colors blue and violent will once again become clearer. On the other hand there are several complications of this type of cataract surgery or is more known as "after-cataract". After-cataract is a long term and common complication of patients who undergo this type of cataract surgery. Some part of the natural lens or the lens capsule that was not removed may become hazy and may deter vision months or years after the surgery. "YAG laser capsulotomy" is needed in order to treat this complication.

A cataract is the opacity that develops in the lens of the eye. The lens is the part of the eye that is responsible for fine focusing. The lens of the eye consists of strong and transparent capsule that is filled with a clear gel like material. When the capsule becomes cloudy the light that enters through it becomes distorted or blocked, preventing it from reaching the retina, thus, reducing the vision. If you have cataracts and are having difficulties in your vision, your doctor will recommend surgery. There is no known cure for cataracts other than surgery. On the other hand, recent studies show that anti-oxidants (for example, vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin E) are cure for cataracts because it causes the delay of the development of cataracts.

The conventional cure for cataracts is to remove the lens and replace it with an intraocular lens. As of now, the technology by which to perform cataract surgery has already matured and a cataract surgery procedure usually last within a few minutes. However, the plastic substitute can not focus automatically that is why some patients still have to wear eyeglasses to correct their vision.

On the other hand, researchers are trying to develop a new material that can be injected in the human eye to function like a healthy lens. This gel like material can be flexed by the ciliary muscles of the eye, providing the needed adjustments to see near and far (a normal functioning lens of the eye thickens and flattens in order to see close and distant objects). However, experts face some problems with this kind of cure for cataract. First, they have to find out the amount to be injected in the eyes. Second, is that how can they prevent the material from leaking out of the hole that they made in order to inject the hydro gel.

There are some cases wherein the cataract is mild enough to be treated naturally with herbs, exercises and other alternative therapy. Despite the consequences, if some individual wants to use this kind of cure for cataract, they must first consult their doctor. There some unreliable reports stated that cataracts in its early stage can be reverted with the use of some of the following guidelines:

* Limit the consumption of foods that contain lactose or milk products.

* A supplementary diet of 10-50 mg of riboflavin daily may help cure or slow down the progression of cataract formation.

* Taking 1000 mg of vitamin C twice daily may help decrease the damage caused by free radicals, thus helps cure cataracts.

* A daily dosage of 200mg to 600mg of N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) along with copper and zinc may cure cataract by destroying free radical.

Cataract can be detected while it is still on its early stage through a complete eye check up.

Any opacity and cloudiness that develops in the crystalline lens of the eyes are considered as cataracts. Cataracts are not formed on the eyes. It is formed within the eyes. Most people would think that a cataract is a film that grows on the eyes which causes blurred images or sometimes double vision. The eye lens is enclosed in a capsule. As the old cells die, it is trapped inside the capsule. As time passes the cell will eventually build up causing the eye lens to cloud, thus making images hazy and indistinctive. It is one of the major causes of visual loss among adult who are over 55 in the whole world.

What are the symptoms and signs of cataracts?

Cataracts at first are small, is has a very small effect of your sight at first. Its first symptom is that your vision will be blurred a little. Its symptoms depend on the location of the cataract on the lens and the cloudiness of the cataract. The most common symptoms are blurry visions, colors seem to appear faded, poor night vision and sensitivity to bright lights. The type of cataract will also affect what symptoms you will be experiencing. Nuclear cataracts first symptom is the improvement of your near vision. However this improvement will be short-lived and eventually will disappear as the cataract deteriorates. Subcapsular cataracts do not have any symptoms until it has fully developed.

What are the causes of cataracts?

Experts say that as we age the eye lens changes, forming cataracts. Experts are progressively distinguishing the factors that cause cataracts. Studies shows, that too much exposure to ultraviolet light is connected with the development of cataracts. They recommend that wearing sunglasses or wide brimmed hat will minimize the exposure of ultraviolet light. Further studies also show that individuals who are diabetic and users of major tranquilizers, diuretics and steroids tend to be at high risk of developing cataracts. Smoking, air pollution and alcohol abuse are also included in the risk factors. Eating foods that are rich in salt puts you on high risk of cataract development.

How to treat cataract.

Diets high in antioxidants (beta-carotene, selenium and vitamin C and vitamin E) helps prevent cataract development. If symptoms start to show you may be able to improve your eyesight with appropriate lighting, glasses, magnifying glass, strong bifocals and other visual aids. If your vision deteriorates badly and impairs your daily activities such as reading, working or driving, you should consider having your cataract removed by surgery. Cataract surgery is the most effective way of restoring your vision. In fact, cataract surgery is one of the most successful surgery procedures in the United States. An average or nine out of ten patients who undergo cataract surgery regain with a very good vision. There are two types of cataract surgery procedure. These are the phacoemulsification and the extracapsular surgery. Ask your ophthalmologist for the type of cataract surgery procedure that would be best for you.

Majority of individuals who undergo cataract eye surgery choose to see well far and correct their near vision with a pair of eye glasses or contact lenses. Multifocal intraocular lenses were introduced on 1997 with the approval of the FDA for use in cataract eye surgery. Multifocal intraocular lens provides the patient with near and far vision (the far vision is however much clearer than the near vision). On the other hand, not all patients are eligible for this type of intraocular lens. The doctor will evaluate the patient before deciding if the patient is eligible for multifocal intraocular lenses. The patient is considered a good candidate for cataract eye surgery if the cataract has decreased the patient's quality of life.

Cataract eye surgery is one of the world's most common surgery procedures and it is also the most effective and safest surgery performed.

The individual who wants to undergo cataract eye surgery must arrive at least two hours after the scheduled surgery time. This is to prepare the patient for surgery, the patient needs to have some eye drops administered and then is explained on how the cataract eye surgery is done. The patient is then settled down in a comfortable position ready for cataract eye surgery. The span of the cataract eye surgery lasts no more than half an hour. Most patients are conscious throughout the surgery procedure. However there are some patients that needed to be sedated because of anxiety and fear. A mild sedative is sometimes used to administer in the patient.

There are two kinds of cataract eye surgery procedure. These are the phacoemulsification procedure and the extracapsular procedure. Phacoemulsification is the most common type of procedure. It is done by making a small incision on the side of the cornea (the clear and dome shaped that covers the front of the eyes). A tiny probe that emits an ultrasound is then used to break the cloudy lens. The lens is then removed by suction and an intraocular lens is then inserted. In extracapsular procedure, the incision is longer in order to remove the hard center of the lens and the remainder of the lens is then removed through suction.

If the cataract is present on both eyes, it can not be operated at the same time. The surgeon will perform separate surgery on one eye and the other eye on a later date.

Cataract surgery recovery is by and large quick with little or no problems whatsoever. After cataract surgery procedure, the patients usually go home and rest for the rest of the day. After the surgery the doctor will usually perform a short "post operation procedure". Patients who want to recovery quickly are advised to wear a protective shield over their eye or eyes to protect the eyes from injuries. Patients must also keep their eye clean.

The patient usually goes home as soon as the patient has recovered from the operation procedure. Although the patient is discouraged from driving home and must have somebody with them within the first twenty-four hours after the operation procedure. The patient's vision will clear within a few hours after the surgery procedure. Their vision will eventually improve quickly within a week or two.

After the cataract surgery procedure, the doctor will give the patient some anti-inflammatory eye drops if the patient's eye or eyes are swollen. Antibiotic ointments or eye drops are given to the patient to prevent the infection of the eyes (even though cataract surgery complications are quite rare).

If you want to have a good cataract surgery recovery, make a follow up appointment with your ophthalmologist after a week of the cataract surgery procedure. The doctor will give you advice on how long to you will use the eye drops and when to start driving again. Your ophthalmologist will prescribe you with glasses within four weeks after the cataract surgery procedure.

To have a fast cataract surgery recovery you must follow these guidelines:

* Have a good rest two or three days after the surgery procedure.

* Avoid bending and lifting a few days after the surgery procedure. Bending and lifting causes the increase of pressure on your eyes and will lead to a longer healing process.

* Avoid touching or rubbing your eyes.

* As much as possible stay indoors. If it is unavoidable, cover your eyes if it is windy or in case something blows in your eyes.

* Do follow up visits to your doctor within a month or two. Be sure to have a follow up appointment the next day after the surgery procedure.

* Wear an eye patch for a few days after the surgery procedure.

* If you are experiencing some pain, loss of vision or notice some increase of redness in your eye or eyes, you must go to your doctor right away.

* In most cases, if you experience some discomfort or some leaking of fluid in the eyes, avoid pressing the eyes. It will cause damage to the post operative eye. Just wipe any discharge with clean tissue or cloth without rubbing or touching the eyes.

Follow all these and you will be guaranteed to have a fast cataract surgery recovery.

Canine cataracts are one of the most common eye problems among dogs. A cataract is the opacity or blurriness of the eye lens. It is a breakdown of the crystalline lens or its capsule. This breakdown leads to the loss of transparency and the ensuing reduction of the canine's vision. Canine cataracts can range from small areas to complete cataracts. Canines that have complete cataracts suffer total loss of light transmission that results to blindness. Canine cataracts can occur from a variety of causes. This includes trauma, nutritional deficiencies, diabetes, and spontaneous developmental abnormalities. Some are defects in the metabolism of the eye lens and old age. Canine cataracts can either be acquired or congenital.

It is very difficult to know the exact cause of canine cataracts. Congenital cataracts can either be inherited or not. There are two categories in canine cataracts. These are primary and secondary cataracts. If there is no other ocular abnormality at hand it is categorized as primary cataract. If the cataract is associated with an additional eye disorder, for instance "generalized progressive retinal atrophy, it is categorized as secondary cataracts.

Genetic canine cataracts can also either be inherited in a dominant or recessive manner. The most important factor in canine cataracts is genetic. The age of the commencement of the cataract, first cataract appearance and the progression rate are somewhat predictable on some canine breed. Genetic canine cataracts are also known as "juvenile canine cataract". This refers to the age of onset of the cataract which usually occurs on young canine. This type of cataracts often develops blindness or remains dormant and does not interfere with the canine's vision. The age of onset is essential in classifying the type of canine cataract because it can determine if the cataract is the result of a hereditary trait in some canine breed.

Congenital Cataract

Congenital cataracts are in-born cataracts. Congenital cataracts are often present of both eyes. Even if the dog is born with cataract it does not mean that that cataract is inherited. Toxins and infections are some of the causes of the formation of these types of canine cataracts. These cataracts often form while the puppies are still in the utero.

Developmental Cataracts

Developmental cataracts or "early onset cataracts" are canine cataracts that usually develop in the early life of the canines. Early onset cataracts have some similarity as congenital cataracts. Early onset cataracts can either be inherited or caused by outside sources like diabetes mellitus (sugar diabetes), toxicity, infection or trauma.

Senile Cataracts

Senile cataract or also known as "late onset cataracts" are cataracts that occur in canines that are over 6 years of age. Nuclear sclerosis if often confused with this type of cataract.

Cataract is the clouding of the crystalline lens of the eyes of which causes a decrease in the vision. On the other hand, some cataracts cause no problems in an individual's vision for a long time (cloudiness and blurriness can be temporarily treated with stronger bifocals, proper eyeglasses and for some, magnifying lenses) but as it mature the opacity in the lens increases causing a gradual decrease in the vision. Loss of vision or blindness can sometimes result to these.

Eye specialists consider cataracts as a condition not a disease. Every individual can develop cataracts. In most cases, cataracts develop as an individual grows older. In Colorado alone, seventy percent of the Colorado cataracts are from the age of 70 an above. In addition to the age factor, the second leading cause of Colorado cataracts are diabetes. It is also one of the causes of blindness in adults between 20 to 74 years of age. Diabetes and obesity are both related to the early onset of the development of the Colorado cataract. Another possible factor for the development of Colorado cataract is eye trauma. Traumatic Colorado cataracts develop from an injury in the lens of the eyes or the eye as a whole. Infants are prone too in developing cataracts. In Colorado, some infants develop congenital cataracts. This type of Colorado cataract develops on infants and sometimes develops during childhood. This kind of Colorado cataract is genetic. Radiation is another factor in cataract development in the Colorado area. Excessive exposure to sunlight is the cause of this Colorado cataract. So be sure to wear protective eyewear when you are in the Colorado area. The long term use of some drugs (steroids for one) can also develop cataract. Lifestyle habits are also another factor in the development of cataracts in Colorado.

For those individuals in the Colorado area who already have cataracts, their daily activities will gradually become affected due to the loss of the clearness and the sharpness of their vision. Most cataracts develop over a long period but as the years go by the condition of the individual's vision will gradually deteriorate. It will eventually affect the individual's ability to drive, read, sew or focus (almost all of the daily activities in the individual's everyday life). Most of these individual see halos around lights, lamps, etc. While in others it will affect their night vision by which is very dangerous. Cataracts affect the normality of the individual's daily routine activities.

Although not yet proven but some researchers say that having a healthy lifestyle will decrease the risk of developing cataracts. The eyes are one of the most important parts of our body to go through our daily activities. So take care of your eyes or your eyes will take care of you.

Cataract occurs when the crystalline lens of the eye becomes cloudy. As the crystalline lens alters its transparency, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, night visions and glare problems eventually develop. Cataracts may lead to total loss of vision or blindness. The only known cure for cataracts is to have it removed by way of a surgical procedure.

Recent studies show that cataracts in Fort Collins, Colorado usually occur to people aging 70 years old and above. This just shows that age is one of the factors of developing cataracts. However another factor is diabetes, it is said that diabetes aid in the development of cataracts due to the changes and instability of the chemicals and proteins in the body. Eye trauma is also one of the main factors in developing cataracts. A direct blow to the eye socket, lens of the eyes or the eye as a whole can lead to traumatic cataracts. Although some of these types of cataracts might take years before the symptoms appear. Improper or prolonged use of certain medications like steroids can result to the development of cataracts. Medications like the ones used in treating breast cancer, gout and medications for treating irregular heartbeat can also lead to the development of cataracts. Smoking has also been linked to the development of cataract. Especially in Fort Collins, Colorado where there are many smokers due to the "cowboy machismo". Chemicals found within the inhaled smoke can result to the break down of the natural proteins in the eye. Prolonged exposure to radiation such as sunlight can lead to the development of cataracts.

Cataract surgery in Fort Collins, Colorado is an optional procedure. Cataract surgery in Fort Collins has lots of state of the art outpatient eye surgery centers. Once the individual who has cataracts opts to go through a cataract surgery in Fort Collins, they will be evaluated by the eye specialist for pre-operative procedure. Cataract surgery in Fort Collins uses two methods in cataract removal procedure. Most eye specialists use an ultrasound probe to get rid of the cataracts. This is called the "phacoemulsification procedure". The ultrasound probe softens and breaks the cataract into small pieces which is then suctioned out. An artificial lens or the "intraocular lens" is then placed to where the natural lens once has been. Another method is the "extracapsular cataract extraction". This is the traditional method of removing cataracts. However this method of cataract surgery procedure isn't recommended due to complications and risks after the surgery procedure. Cataract surgery in Fort Collins is the most performed and effective surgery procedure. Cataract surgery in Fort Collins is also very safe.

Most people think that cataract is a disease. It is not. The fact is, cataract is a condition; a condition that develops in the crystalline lens of the eyes. It is the clouding or the opacity of the crystalline lens that prevents light from reaching the retina. Its symptoms are hazy and foggy vision that will progressively become worse over time. Aging, eye trauma, constant medical condition and prescription drugs are the main factors of developing cataracts.

Cataract removal through surgery procedure is the only way in treating cataracts. It is one of the most commonly performed surgery procedure in the world, with over ninety percent success rate. However, in some rare cases there can be some complication after the cataract has been surgically removed. Some develop unforeseen complications. The most common cataract surgery complications are loss of vision, fluctuating eye pressure, infection, bleeding, inflammation and double vision. The most common temporary cataract surgery complications are:

* Itchiness and stickiness of the eyes as well as blurry vision after the cataract surgery procedure.

* Redness of the white part of the eyes with a scratchy feeling on it.

* Some would experience pain in the eyes but this usually settles down within one or two weeks.

* The eyelid or eyes may ache.

The most serious of all the cataract surgery complications is that the lens behind the eye may tear during the surgery procedure. This type of cataract surgery complication causes damage to the vision. If this does happen, the cataract will be lost on the back of the eye and another surgery procedure must be done in order to remove the lost cataract.

There are two types of cataract surgery procedure. These are the phacoemulsification and the extracapsular surgery procedure. The most common cataract surgery complication in the phacoemulsification procedure is the clouding of the lens casing or lens capsule that is left in the eye which the intraocular lens is put in to. This type of cataract surgery complication is called "posterior capsular opacification". The capsule that is left behind will progressively become cloudy in the span of two years accordingly. This leads to a reduced vision, the same as having another cataract. On the other hand this type of cataract surgery complication can be corrected by laser treatment.

Below are the common cataract surgery complications:

Retinal detachment

This type of cataract surgery complication is a condition wherein the fluid seeps through a tear in the retina, which causes the retina to detach from the back of the eye.

Choroidal Hemorrhage

Choroidal hemorrhage is when the web of fine blood vessels (called "choroids") which supplies blood to the retina bleeds during the surgery procedure. Usually transpires on older patients and patients who have glaucoma.

Some experts say that there is no known cure to reverse cataract but to reverse cataract development, it is possible. How can you reverse the development of cataract? Is it really possible to reverse cataract? Let us first get to know what cataract is all about. Cataract is what you will call to the development of opacity in the crystalline lens, thus block the light that enters the eye. Cataract is the most common eye disorder that is usually bought on by aging, diabetes, eye injury, eye disease, prescription drugs, prolonged exposure to sunlight (specifically ultraviolet rays), smoking and alcohol abuse and vitamin deficiencies. Vision problems, which are common complications to individuals who are diabetic usually starts with cataracts. The usual treatments for cataracts are the removal of the natural lens of the eyes and implant an artificial lens. The eye lens has higher protein content than any other body tissue. Individuals who have a low protein diet are at risk of developing cataracts. Older adults need more protein than what is generally recommended. Another factor is the ultraviolet rays. Too much exposure can cause free radical damage to the eye lens. The eye lens is vulnerable to nutritional deficiencies and poor blood circulation.

Some experts say that surgery is the only way to treat cataract. Reverse cataract another method that is being applied to individuals who have atherosclerosis or diabetes. Reverse cataract is a special nutritional supplement that can support the protective mechanisms of the eye lens and helps in repairing the damage. It can also do well to other eye conditions like glaucoma and macular degeneration. The eye lens is very vulnerable to nutritional deficiencies since it is not directly nourished by the bloodstream. The eye lens must obtain its much needed nourishment from adjacent cells. The eye lens needs large amounts of micronutrients like pantothenic acid or vitamin B-5, vitamin A, vitamin B-2, vitamin C, choline, vitamin E, selenium, I-glutamine, bioflavonoids, glycine and magnesium. Reverse cataracts can be done by simply supplementing their diets. Below is the list of nutrients of the "reverse cataract development formula" that a person with cataract should take daily in order to prevent the development of cataracts:

* Vitamin A         6,000 IU
* Beta Carotene     12,000 IU
* Vitamin E         80 IU

What is cataract?

A cataract is opacity that develops in the eye's envelope or in its crystalline lens. Derived from the word "cataracta" which is a Latin word for "waterfall" and "kataraktes" which means "to wash down" in Greek. The eye lens work like camera lens. The light is focused into the retina at the back of the eyes. The lens aids the focus of the eyes letting the eyes see clearly. The crystalline lens of the eyes is primarily made up of water and protein. The protein is naturally bonded together so that light may pass through. Cataract is formed when that bond changes and the molecules of protein are clump together. These clumps block the light entering the lens. As we age these clumps grow bigger and cloudier.

Researchers are not sure why the eye lens change as we age, thus forming cataracts. Although not common, cataract also occurs on young persons. These are sometimes caused by eye trauma, prescription drugs or chronic medical conditions. However they have identified some risk factors of which can cause cataract. These include the long-term exposure to ultraviolet light, secondary effects of diseases such as myotonic, dystrophy, diabetes and Wilson's disease. Fetal exposure to radiation, alcohol and abuse of substances during pregnancy contribute a high risk factor. Smoking is one of the major risk factor of cataract. Long term alcohol use leads to the development of cataract; this is because alcohol can lead to vitamin deficiency. Vitamin C and vitamin E deficiency are said to may have linked to the development of cataract. Eye infection also is a major risk. A tumor may cause changes that will often lead to cataract development.

Cataracts are categorized into three types because the eye lens consists of three components. These are the nucleus or the center lens, the lens cortex or the periphery, and the membrane that envelops the lens or the capsule.

Nuclear Cataract

The most common cataract found among older patients. This type of cataract develops in the nucleus. Nuclear cataract can take years to develop.

Cortical Cataract

This type of cataract forms in the peripheral area or the lens cortex area. Cortical cataract is common among patients who are diabetic. If left untreated it will sooner or later extend its spores into the center.

Subcapsular Cataract

Subcapsular cataract develops at the back of the lens area and sometimes in the center. Rapid symptoms can occur in just over month's period.

In the early stages of cataract, cataracts tend to interfere with the vision. Causing blurred or hazy vision, however this can be improved by using new glasses, magnification, adequate lighting, strong bifocals or any other visual aid. But if the symptom worsens, making it difficult to do daily activities such as driving, reading or working it may need to be surgically removed by your ophthalmologist.

Although having cataract does not necessarily mean that you should go through a cataract removal surgery. Stronger bifocals, change in eyeglasses and sometime magnifying lens can temporarily relieve you of the problem in your vision. But if you are having troubles with your vision in doing some daily activities like watching television, driving, sewing, reading or just plain looking at your love one's face, (the increased cloudiness of the lens inside the eye makes it unattainable for your vision to improve) then you should go through a cataract removal surgery procedure. The cataract surgery in Colorado is very much safe and effective. In fact, cataract surgery in Colorado is probably the most performed and at the same time effective surgery procedure in the Colorado area.

Cataract surgery in Colorado is an optional procedure. In deciding whether you should undergo a cataract surgery in Colorado, you should consider what type of cataract surgery procedure you should go through. As with any other parts in the United States, there are two types of cataract procedure in Colorado. These are the phacoemulsification surgery procedure and the extracapsular surgery procedure. In the phacoemulsification surgery procedure the cataract is broken into tiny pieces by an ultrasound probe. These tiny pieces of the lens are then removed by suction. The membrane or capsule which holds the lens in place is preserved and an artificial lens called "intraocular lens" is then place to where the natural lens once have been. The traditional cataract surgery in Colorado is the extracapsular cataract extraction surgery procedure. The extracapsular cataract extraction procedure involves a large incision to remove the lens of the eye. It does not break it into tiny bits. This is done in order to remove the cataract. This however necessitates the placement of lots of stitches and has a longer cataract surgery procedure recovery. This kind of cataract surgery in Colorado also has lots of restriction of activities after the surgery procedure.

Due to the technological advances in the field of medicine, only a small incision is needed for cataract surgery in Colorado. Eye specialists who perform cataract surgery in Colorado now use state of the art equipments and the latest method in cataract surgery. Eye specialists now use an intraocular lens that folds out by themselves once place on the eye. This allows the patient to experience a much quicker surgery procedure and also lets the whole surgery procedure to be done on a small area. This makes it possible for a self sealing wound that would rarely (very rarely) require stitches.

Eye specialists who perform cataract surgery in Colorado always have a thorough eye exam before the surgery procedure. By this, they can establish certain conditions that might affect the result of the whole procedure.

Cataract surgery in Colorado is painless and usually takes about 30 minutes and after the procedure, the patient can go home immediately.

Cataract surgery is the most common surgery procedure performed in the United States. Because of today's advance technology and surgical techniques, it is one the most effective surgery procedures (with over ninety percent success rate). However as with any surgery, cataract surgery also has some risks. The most common cataract surgery risks are infection and bleeding.

The clouding of the back part of the capsule is also one of the cataract surgery risks. Swelling of the retina is one of the potential cataract surgery risks, although this risk tends to disappear after a few weeks. Below are some of the potential cataract surgery risks and complications:

* Astigmatism – astigmatism can develop after the cataract surgery. However this can be treated through corrective lenses and has no effect on the vision.

* Infection – although this type of cataract surgery risk is not common but still possible. That is due to negligence in sterile techniques.

* Hemorrhage – stile not common but possible, this is sometimes cause by the placement of the incision in the cornea region of the eye.

* Swelling of the Cornea – it is caused by the response of the eye from the surgical instrument that is inserted. Usually not noticed until a few hours after the surgery procedure. May cause distorted vision.

* Glaucoma – the development of glaucoma is one of the potential cataract surgery risks. This is caused by some of the fluids used during the surgery which does not pass through the eye's natural drainage system which causes an increase in pressure inside the eyes. Often marked with sharp pain in the eye region or headache. The pressure can be lower through medication.

* Retinal Detachment – individuals who undergo cataract surgery increase their risk in developing retinal detachment. Individuals who undergo laser surgery procedure to cure the opacity of the lens covering after a cataract surgery procedure poses even greater risks in developing retinal detachment.

Some of the cataract surgery risks and complications can be treated with further surgery procedure. Some of theses complications may have some effect on your vision even with treatment.

However if you opt not to undergo cataract surgery, the cataract will slowly deteriorate your vision. Its effects can disrupt your abilities on your daily and nightly activities (the vision problems are even greater at night time).

There are many advantages if you choose to have your cataract removed. It can improve your color vision. Colors will be more vibrant and vivid. Visual acuity is greatly improved. The lens (intraocular lens) that is implanted on the cataract surgery will greatly decrease the focusing problems which lead to the reduced dependence on corrective eyewear. Although glasses may still be needed when reading or driving.

A cataract surgery procedure frequently lasts not more than an hour. It is usually painless. Most of the time, individuals who undergo cataract surgery choose to be awake during the procedure, although there are some who would rather be put to sleep for a short time. On the other hand, if the patient chooses to be awake, the patient will be given an anesthetic to numb the nerves that surround the eyes. A "lid speculum" will then hold the patient's eye. The procedure is usually not uncomfortable. In after cataract surgery the patient will be given an eye shield to be placed over the eye. In some after cataract surgery effects, the patient will experience some increase sensitivity to light and a small amount of fluid will sometimes discharge from the eye. The fluid discharge is also common in after cataract surgery. After cataract surgery the patient may experience slight discomfort but this will decrease and disappear completely within the next few days. Itching and mild discomfort is normal. Most patients usually go home right away after the surgery procedure although the patient is restricted from driving.

After cataract surgery the patient may experience slight discomfort but this will decrease and disappear completely within the next few days. Itching and mild discomfort is normal. Most patients usually go home right away after the surgery procedure although the patient is restricted from driving.

Immediately after surgery the doctor will schedule the patient for exams to follow up on the patient's progress. The patient is then prescribed with some eye drops or antibiotics to help increase the healing process. Once the dressing on the eye is removed the patient is advised to wear the eye shield when sleeping to protect the eye from injuries and damages.

Here are some guidelines for the patients to follow after the cataract surgery procedure:
* Avoid strenuous exercises for two to three weeks after cataract surgery procedure.

* Avoid manual labor two weeks after cataract surgery.

* Avoid vigorous sports two weeks after undergoing cataract surgery. Swimming is safe a month after the cataract procedure.

Follow these guidelines and you will improve you vision with less complications. Although some patients still need glasses or contact lenses despite the development of their vision.

The most common after cataract surgery problems are increased pressure, inflammation, blurring of vision because of swelling, pain, redness and bleeding. The most serious (but rare) after cataract surgery problems are infection, loss of vision and light flashes. The patient should contact their doctor if they experience increasing pain and progressive worsening of vision after the cataract surgery. All these complications can be treated if given prompt medical attention.

It is important to remember not to put your fingers in your eye after the cataract operation. Do not lift heavy objects because it increases the pressure in the eye. Have a good rest. And most importantly you should take your medications exactly as the doctor has prescribed. See your doctor if you are experiencing any problems.

Cataracts are the clouded area that forms within the crystalline lens of the eyes. Cataracts block the light that passes through the eyes which results in blurred vision. The only known treatments of cataracts are through surgery. The vision in early cataracts can be improved by changing the prescription of the eyeglass, use strong lighting or by the aid of a magnifying lens for close work. However if the cataract interferes with your daily activities (making reading or driving difficult), you may have undergo a cataract surgery procedure.

In some cases, cataracts that are mild enough can be naturally removed through natural cataract treatment (like various herbs, exercise and alternative therapy). However if the individual who wants to have the cataract remove opts to choose this type of cataract treatment, they should always consult their doctor first because some medically prescribed drugs and natural herbs can sometimes have serious interactions. There are also other forms of natural therapy although most of them are not scientifically proven to treat cataracts.

With today's advance technology and research, undergoing cataract treatment is much convenient and effective. Most individuals who have cataracts tend to use eye glasses and contact lenses to correct their vision before the cataract becomes serious. On the other hand, traditional cataract treatments like eye glasses and contact lenses are only temporary for cataract problems because once the vision deteriorates because of cataracts, eye glasses and contact lenses will be useless. The only alternative will be cataract surgery. As stated above, having the cataract surgically removed is the only known cataract treatment.

Cataract treatment through surgery is the most common, successful, and effective surgery procedure in the United States today (it has a success rate of over ninety percent). Although complications may occur, most of those complications are minor and can be treated with additional procedures.

There are two types of surgery procedure in cataract treatment. These are the "phacoemulsification" surgery procedure and the "extracapsular" surgery procedure. In the "phacoemulsification", a small incision is done on the side of the cornea so that a tiny probe may be inserted. The probe emits an ultrasound wave that breaks the cataracts. The debris is then suctioned out of the eye. This is the most commonly performed cataract treatment procedure. In the "extracapsular" procedure, a long incision is made on the cornea to remove the hard center of the lens in one piece while the rest of lens is then suctioned out. An "intraocular lens" is then inserted replacing the eye's natural lens. This artificial lens becomes the permanent part of the eyes. Most of the intraocular lenses are made up of silicone, sometimes made up of plastic called "PMMA" or acrylic. The intraocular lens lets light pass through the retina thus improving the vision.

There are two known types of surgery procedure for cataract removal. These are the "phacoemulsification" surgery procedure (small incision) and the "extracapsular" surgery procedure (large incision). Phacoemulsification procedure is the most common surgery procedure in cataract removal.

In the phacoemulsification procedure, a small incision (about 3 millimeters in size) is done on the cornea. The small incision is slightly widened in order to insert an ultrasound probe. The ultrasound probe then softens and breaks the cataract without damaging the capsule. The ultrasound probe vibrates at 50,000 cycles per second causing it to emit a sound at a very high frequency resulting the breaking of the cataract into very small pieces. The debris is then suctioned out and a foldable artificial lens known as "intraocular lens" are then placed into the area where the natural lens was removed. The intraocular lens is then gently inserted into the circular hole that was made in the cornea. Once in place, the intraocular lens then unfolds on its own and takes the permanent where the natural lens once has been. No stitching and sewing is required since the lens will remain in position. An eye drop solution of saline is then added to re-establish the intraocular pressure inside the eye.

Another method for cataract removal is the "extracapsular extraction" procedure. In this cataract removal procedure requires a large incision and the use of stitches. This method is used for individuals who have a very hard cataract or has a weak corneal epithelial tissue. In this cataract removal method, it involves the removal of lens and its surrounding lens capsule together in on piece. Artificial lens or intraocular lens are the placed to the natural lens' place and the intraocular lens then becomes a permanent part of the eye. This cataract removal procedure has a high rate of risks and complications due to the large incisions made and the amount of pressure that is used to place on the vitreous body. Cataract removal operations are mostly performed with local anaesthetic.

During the cataract removal operation the patient is told to keep their eyes as still as possible. Patient won't have to worry about keeping their eyes open. A small device is used to hold the eye lids open.

Most individuals who undergo cataract removal operation recover quickly. Sometimes the patient may experience little problems or complications or sometime no problem at all. If the patient underwent the phacoemulsification procedure, the patient's recovery would be more quick and uncomplicated. Most of the time, the patient can go home immediately after the cataract removal operation. Although the patient has to make sure that somebody would take them home because driving after the cataract removal surgery is not possible.

Has your vision gradually deteriorates? Do halos appear around bright lights at night? Chances are you may already have cataracts. Cataracts is not a disease, it is a condition. Cataract is a condition that develops in the eyes. This condition is the cloudiness that is found in the eye's crystalline lens or in its envelope. As the crystalline lens becomes cloudy, your vision becomes hazier. It is because the light that passes through the eye's natural lens is block or scattered, thus keeping the retina from focusing. Early cataracts are usually cloudy and opaque. As the cataract matures it is denser making the retina receive less light which causes slow impairment of vision. With today's research and advance technology, cataract can be cured.

Dogs are man's best friend. Everybody knows that. But just like any man or human beings rather, dogs can also have cataracts. Cataracts in dogs are the most common problems that affect our canine friends. Whatever breed or age dogs may be it is very common among them. Certain types of cataracts in dogs have showed up more commonly on certain breeds.

Literally, the word cataract means "to dash down". This means the breakdown of the normal arrangements of the eye's capsule or the eye len's fiber. This results in the loss of the transparency of the eyes and the reduction in vision. Cataracts in dogs have a white appearance in the eye lens; sometimes cataracts in dogs resemble crushed ice.

Cataracts in dogs are most common in older dogs. However most people mistook nuclear sclerosis for cataracts it's because nuclear sclerosis appears as a graying of the dog's eye lens. Nuclear sclerosis usually appears on both of the dog's eyes. This transparency loss in the dog's eyes occurs because of the firmness of the linear fibers in the dog's eye lens but it does not affect the dog's vision and treatment is not recommended. Most of the cataracts in dogs are inherited. The cataracts in dogs develops with age (usually after eight years), much like humans or it may develop rapidly or slowly, in one eye or both eyes.

The dog's age is essential in classifying the type of cataract in dogs. The age of the early stage of the cataract is essential in order to determine if the cataract is a result of a hereditary trait in certain breeds. Congenital cataracts in dogs are present at birth. This type of cataract usually occurs in both eyes. Even though most dogs have it when they are born it does not mean this type of cataract is inherited. Toxins or infection is the usual cause while the puppy is still in the utero. However, Miniature Schnauzers who have congenital cataract are inherited.

There is no known method in making the dog's eye lens clear once the lens has developed cataracts. The only known method in treatment treating cataract in dogs is by surgery. The operation procedure and the equipments used are the same as of those used on humans. In order for the surgery to be successful, the patient (dog) must undergo thorough examination in order to determine if the dog is a good surgical candidate.

If you think that your dog has cataract, do not hesitated to bring your dog to your veterinary ophthalmologist for a checkup. Once you have done that, you would be assured that your dog will have the best and most effective treatment. After all, dogs are man's best friend. They deserve the best treatment.
