Just like sometimes your fingers and feet swell, so can your breasts. And not always this is a cause to worry though it is suggested that one doesn't ignore it and consults a doctor. Swelling is a condition in which a part of the body undergoes enlargement, because of the formation of an underlying lump. Swelling may occur in a body part due to a number of reasons, mainly in response to an injury, infection of disease or if the circulation of the fluids inside the body is not in a regulated manner. When swelling occurs due to retention of the fluids it is known as Edema. Commonly it is seen that swelling in body parts in general is not considered as a serious physical problem, but still professional medical consultation should be sought as in some cases the reasons for swelling may prove serious & fatal.

Swelling of Eyelids:
The eyelid is a very delicate organ which protects our eyes from any external influences such as dust, heat, intense light, etc. The skin flap of the eyelids through its constant blinking process lubricates the eyeball, and also clears away the dust particles which accumulate in the nearby regions. The swelling of the eye balls may occur on account of a wide variety of reasons such as different types of allergies and other medical conditions. The most common symptoms are the swelling of the eye lids, reddening of the eye balls, itching and burning feelings etc.

Causes of eyelid swelling:
Blepharitis is one of the most common forms of eye swelling, in which the inflammation of the eyelids takes place recurrently which is being caused by the infection caused by a bacterium known as Staphylococcus bacteria. Conjunctivitis is another medical term which is used in this context. It is a contagious eye infection which may cause swelling, itching, burning or redness of the eye. The reasons for the occurrence of this disease may be varied starting from allergy, environmental irritants, contact lens products, eye drops & ointments etc. In some special cases it is observed that the disease may also spread by bacterial or viral infection. The disease is considered to be one of the most dreaded ones as it can spread from one person to the other at any given time. Chalazion is another type of eye lid swelling the symptom of which is a formation of a lump in the eyelids.

Cures and remedies:
In most of the cases of swelling of the eye lids professional medical attention is advised though there are a number a home remedies and preventive measures which can prove to be effective & helpful. For example in Blepharitis it is advised to keep the eyelids clean and free from crusts and application of warm compresses followed by a light scrubbing of the same with a cotton swab and a mixture of water and baby shampoo.

Is Your Belly Swollen?

Well to begin with, let us define swollen belly. Well, a swollen belly is marked by increased abdominal girth. It can be called swollen abdomen, swelling in the abdomen, abdominal distention or distended abdomen. Swollen belly is a common condition that usually results from over-eating, rather than from a serious illness. Simple weight gain, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), pregnancy, or the unconscious swallowing of air can also cause swelling. Often, it is caused by intestinal gas. This may result from eating fibrous foods like fruits and vegetables. Legumes like beans are common sources of this intestinal gas. People who are lactose intolerant cannot properly digest dairy foods, and for such people even dairy products may cause distention.

What can cause the belly to swell?

The most common cause of stomach swell is overeating, lactose intolerance being the second most common cause. Air swallowing (a nervous habit), irritable bowel syndrome and partial bowel obstruction are some other causes. An important think to keep in mind is that abdominal distention may also result from the accumulation of fluid in the abdomen, which can be a sign of serious medical problems.

Home Care for a Swollen Belly -

1. Distention resulting from a heavy meal goes away when the food is digested. Eating in moderation will help prevent this swelling.
2. For distention caused by swallowing air, awareness can lead to self-control. Eat slowly, avoid carbonated beverages, avoid chewing gum or sucking on candies, avoid drinking through a straw, or even sipping the surface of a hot beverage.
3. For distention caused by mal-absorption, try changing diets and reducing your milk consumption. Consulting your doctor is advised.
4. For irritable bowel syndrome, increase dietary fiber, decrease emotional stress and consult doctor.
5. For distention resulting from other causes, follow doctor prescribed therapy for treating the underlying cause.

When to Contact a Medical Professional

Though belly swelling is not a serious problem in most of the cases, in some it might turn ugly. If you are facing a serious problem dealing with belly swelling at home then consulting a doctor is advised. You must see a doctor if your abdominal girth is getting worse and unrelenting, if the swelling is accompanied by other unexplained symptoms or if your abdomen is tender to the touch.

There are many reasons of the penis swelling. The main reason must be the infection due to lack of personal hygiene Inflammation can occur if the receptive skin beneath the foreskin is not washed regularly. Wash your underwear daily with the non-biological powder or liquid. Put two handfuls of salt in the water and do not use the bubble bath or disinfectant. Please also ask your spouse to visit the doctor.

The stomach swelling is very painful and it needs proper care and treatment otherwise it can take much time to be healed.

The reason of the stomach swelling:

The swelling is typically caused by the cells in the liver becoming swollen. If the reason is removed such as an infection or alcohol, then it will gradually settle down. Gastric distress and sickness can be associated to some kinds of liver disease and once more this will get better once the problem has resolved. Any stomach related problem can cause the stomach swelling. Stomach swelling can take some time to get healed.

The medication for the stomach swelling:

There is no hard and fast treatment for the stomach swelling. The stomach swelling much depends upon the original cause and the diagnosis of the problem. For example if the stomach swelling is caused by the infection or the alcohol than the method of treatment must be to remove the infection but if the stomach infection is caused by the cancer or leukemia than the treatment must be with the help of radio active substances.

What to do if you have the symptoms of the stomach swelling:

If the symptoms are evident of the stomach swelling than you should immediately contact your doctor for the proper analysis instead of jumping into the conclusion that you have the stomach swelling. The doctor will prescribe the right method of treatment according to the causes of the stomach swelling. Remember the stomach infection is not always the stomach swelling.

In these surroundings, there is too much fluid in the body.

Cause of swelling

Other circumstances that can cause swelling to one or both legs include blood clot, leg infection, venous insufficiency, varicose veins, burns, insect bite or sting, starvation or malnutrition, surgery to your leg or foot. Certain medications may also be the reason of your legs to swell. Hormones like estrogen and testosterone are also one of the reasons of swelling of legs. A group of blood pressure lowering drugs is also known as calcium channel blockers. Steroids and antidepressants, comprising MAO inhibitors and tricyclics are also contributing in healing the swollen legs. The specific treatment will be directed at whatsoever underlying cause is found. Diuretics may also be prescribed. These are effectual in reducing the swelling but have some side effects. Home treatment for benign causes of leg swelling should be tried before drug therapy beneath medical supervision.

Prevention

Avoid sitting or standing with no motion for prolonged periods of time. When flying, stretch your legs over and over again and get up to walk when possible. Avoid wearing restrictive clothing or garters around your thighs. One should always exercise regularly. Lose weight if you want to. Leg swelling usually occurs because of an abnormal accumulation of fluid in the tissues of the lower extremity. The clinical term for leg swelling from excessive fluid in the tissues is edema. Persisting indentation of a swollen leg after pressure from a finger is called as pitting edema. Less familiar causes of leg swelling include diseases that cause thickness of the layers of skin, such as scleroderma and eosinophilic fasciitis. In these diseases, the leg swelling is characterized by non-pitting edema.

The knee swelling is very common in all ages. The inflammation in the knee and on the near places of knee is called the knee swelling. If your knee is swelling for over 48 hours or the swelling produces intense pain not easily treated with normal over the counter pain medication, you should seek medical healing immediately. The knee swelling is not a serious matter and it can be healed at home easily.

The possible reasons of the knee swelling:

There are many reasons of the knee swelling. The most serious cause is infection in the knee due to some injury or bacteria. Some people are more prone to the swelling because of the less salt reserve in the body. And sometimes the knee swelling can also be caused by the bugs' stings or due to some insects. The arthritis is one of the other causes of the knee swelling. There are lots of other causes of knee swelling. The knee swelling can cause some problem in walking also.

What to do at the time of knee swelling:

It is very easy to heal the knee swelling and it is not a serious matter but the swelling can be serious if it is bruising within 30 minutes of an injury and if there are symptoms of impaired blood flow.like pale, white, blue, or cold skin and theere is pain and increasing redness in the swelled area. The best thing to do at the time of knee swelling is to take rest and you can also apply some ice on the swelled area and it will be fine in two or three days. Apply the warm heat at least three times a day. The exercise can also help the swelling. You should try to bend the leg on the opposite direction of the swelling. The pain killers don't help much at the time of swelling but some people use the pain killers to reduce the pain. If the swelling does not go down within some days then you should go and see a doctor.

Swollen ankles, feet and legs, in medical terms is known as edema, occur when fluid is retained in the spaces between body cells. Edema can be caused by a severe condition of the kidney, heart, liver or blood vessels, but many other factors can contribute to its onset, including, eating a poor diet high in salt and carbohydrates, abusing laxatives, abusing diuretics abusing drugs, taking birth control or hormone replacement therapy pills, pregnancy and PMS, sodium retention, varicose veins and history of phlebitis, allergic reactions, neuromuscular disorders and trauma.

Symptoms and relief

Originally, the feet, ankles and legs will appear swollen as the day progresses, but after a period of time, the swelling will set in first thing in the morning and continue to worsen throughout the day. Long-term edema leads to pitting. When you push on the swollen area for a few seconds, you will notice an indentation in that area. Continued swelling can lead to skin ulcerations. Over time, other symptom also develops, like that of, high blood pressure, headaches, increased urination, and Palpitations, swollen hands and/or wrists, puffy eyes and Weight gain. Raise your legs above the level of the heart, which puts minimal pressure on the backs of the knees and thighs and lower back. Just sitting in a reclining chair in front of the TV is a great mode to elevate your legs.

Other relief and prevention

Keep your feet at the leg wedge in order to elevate the feet while sleeping. Do wear support socks and stocking, either over-the-counter or customer-made for getting your feet's healed. The support socks and stockings come in various gradients depending on the pressure needed, and various lengths depending on the level of the edema. You should wear proper fitting shoes and socks. In order to get the conformability level, go out to buy new shoes in the afternoon to get the best fit. Apply new techniques to help decrease the swelling, like that of increase muscle activity with walking. Avoid standing in a place for a longer period of time. Avoid sitting with the feet dependent on the other. Limit the salt intake in your food. Do not abuse diuretics, but a short-term course may be helpful in treating your swollen ankles. Also do not abuse the laxatives. Drink plenty of water in order to get a proper healthy life. Avoid contraceptive pills and hormone replacement therapy if you can. Always use a compressions pump to help fluid return to the blood vessels.

Spleen is a soft, purplish-red organ, which lies under the diaphragm on the left side of the abdominal cavity. It acts as a filter against foreign organisms that infect the bloodstream, filtering out old red blood cells from the bloodstream and decomposes them. Phagocytic cells in the spleen, that are capable of engulfing and destroying bacteria, parasites, and debris perform these functions. Ordinarily, the spleen manufactures red blood cells only toward the end of fetal life, and after birth this function is taken over by the bone marrow. However, if a bone marrow breakdown takes place, the spleen reverts to its fetal function. The spleen also acts as a blood reservoir and when additional blood is needed during stress or at other times, the spleen contracts, forcing stored blood into circulation.

However, if a bone marrow breakdown takes place, the spleen reverts to its fetal function. The spleen also acts as a blood reservoir and when additional blood is needed during stress or at other times, the spleen contracts, forcing stored blood into circulation.

An Overview Of Swollen Spleen -

Spleen swelling is also called as spleen enlargement or Splenomegaly. It is a cardinal sign of hypersplenism. Splenomegaly is usually associated with increased workload, which suggests that it is a response to hyper function. As a result of this splenomegaly is associated with any disease process, which involves abnormal red blood cells being destroyed in the spleen.

A symptom of Malaria, Cirrhosis of the liver, leukaemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, polycythaemia, spleen enlarges when called on to remove massive numbers of red blood cells, defective cells, or bacteria from the circulation. Enlargement of the spleen produces a dull, heavy sensation just under left ribs and though this may not be the only symptom, consult a doctor if there is no improvement in 12 hours.

Sometimes the spleen may have to be removed in adults if it is ruptured by injury or if it is destroying too many red blood cells (as in haemolytic anemia). In such a case, its functions are taken over by rest of the reticulo-endothelial system. In small children, splenectomy is usually avoided as the organ plays a larger role in dealing with hostile bacteria.

Treatment -

If the splenomegaly underlies hypersplenism, splenectomy is indicated and this should correct the problem. After splenectomy, however, patients are considered immuno-compromised, and so need to be placed on lifelong prophylactic oral antibiotics. The risks of splenectomy are greatest in the first two years after the completion of the procedure. Patients also need to be vaccinated against common viral infections, and must receive annual influenza vaccinations.

Apart from the cosmetic implications of other surgeries, there are other problems that you may have to deal with, such as the swelling of the arms. Some of them can occur years later or last for years, even permanently. The main complication, but fortunately an uncommon one twenty percent, is swelling of the arm, a condition called lymph edema, which can happen as a result of the removal of lymph nodes. It can be so slight that you only notice it since your rings are gradually feeling too tight on your fingers, or so severe that your arm is huge, even elephantine. It can be provisional or permanent. It can occur immediately, or years after your operation.

About lymph edema

On the whole, lymph edema sometimes called milk arm is a plumbing problem. Generally, the lymph fluid is carried through the lymph vessels, passes through the lymph nodes, and gets dumped back into the bloodstream, near the heart. The lymph nodes perform like a strainer, removing foreign material and bacteria. So if you have surgery in the area and it scars over, some of the holes are blocked and the drainage can't work as efficiently. The fluid doesn't drain out as well as it needs to, and all backs up and swells. Protein leaks into the tissue and then scars causing the state to become chronic.

Conclusion

Lymph edema profits through stages. First is the latency stage where there is no swelling but as a consequence of surgery there is a reduced capacity for transporting lymph fluid. As long as there are no undue stresses on the scheme all will be well. The then step or stage I is reversible soft swelling. The skin is at a halt normal and the swelling can be relieved by elevating your arm. Stage II is no longer impulsively reversible because there are fibrous changes in the tissues making your arm feel hard. In this stage there are many infections which just exacerbate the situation. The final phase is lymph static elephantiasis this is an extreme increase in volume and texture with typical skin changes including deep skin folds.

Description & Outlook

The vein are the carriers of blood and their prime function is to forward the movement of the blood towards the heart. The swelling of the veins or the formation of swollen vein may account for more than one reason depending upon several factors such as the location of the vein in the body, congenital defectiveness, malfunctioning of the valves etc. It may also be the outcome of a prominent disease like varicose veins, thrombophlebitis or any other vascular and heart diseases. The swelling may also occur in different parts of the body depending upon the affected region within the body. In women swelling up of the veins can be absolutely normal and a natural process during pregnancy, menopause or as an effect of aging as scientific studies reveal. Veins may also swell in particularly in the hands or legs due to over exercise or as an effect of blood clotting due to a previous injury or an accident.

Related diseases for swelling effect

Varicose veins can be termed as one of the most common condition in which the vein swell up mostly in the lower parts of the leg altering them into a twisted rope like structure causing severe pain, irritation and itching. The symptoms include aching & heaviness of the legs, blue shiny discoloration of the skin around the veins & prompt swelling of the veins especially at nights. Thrombophlebitis is a condition in which a blood clotting factor causes inflammation in or more of the veins mostly in the lower parts of the legs and rarely in the wrists & other parts of the body. Thrombophlebitis is often caused by prolonged inactivity and lack of exercise. It may also have its roots from paralysis, certain type of cancers and use of the hormone estrogen. Its common symptoms include warmth, tenderness in the affected area along with swelling & reddening of the veins.

Possible cures & medical treatments

Most of the swellings caused in the veins are curable through simple medications & exercises in some cases. However medical attention should be sought after in serious cases. For varicose veins anti inflammatory medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen can be helpful in total elimination for the swellings & other related symptoms. In specific cases regular exercise including vein gymnastics, wadding through water and walking bare foot may also prove fruitful.

The inflammation and swelling of the tonsils is called tonsillitis. The infected tonsils become red and swollen, for working better to trap or stop the disease force – bacteria or virus. They also get coated (either partly or entirely) with yellow, grey, or white substance, depending upon the infection and pus formation. Tonsillitis begins with a sudden sore throat and causes painful swallowing. The tonsils infection is common in children and teenagers but it is hardly seen in adults.

Types of tonsillitis:

Tonsillitis or tonsil swelling can be classified as acute and chronic. Acute tonsillitis is a sudden onset swelling which lasts for about 4 to 6 days. It is an uncomplicated form that commonly affects children of ages 5-10. Chronic tonsillitis occurs in case of a recurrent infection. They remain infected and do not seem to respond to treatment. They are usually complicated form of tonsillitis, seen in maltreated or untreated children and teenagers. A Further classification of tonsillitis types can be made as membranous and follicular. Membranous swelling is most common in children where as in follicular one has follicles in the outer layer which appears as yellow dots on the tonsil surface. It is common among young adults.

Causes of tonsil swelling -

The most common cause for tonsillitis is Bacterial or viral infection. Bacteria, specifically beta-hemolytic streptococci, are the main offender. Some virus can also cause tonsillitis. The source of infection can be food or water or droplet infection from coughing or mucous secretions of some infected person. Tonsil swelling is also found to occur as an allergic reaction to allergens, for example pollens, cold things, food preservatives, drugs and mechanical injury.

Symptoms of swollen tonsils -

There are no specific symptoms for swollen tonsils and the symptoms can be different for different patients depending upon the size and involvement of sides (single or both). Some symptoms can be excessive salivation and dribbling of saliva when mouth breathe predominates, a sore throat that induces constant hawking and choking and difficulty and pain during swallowing – due to obstruction. Constitutional disturbances like fever with chill and tiredness is also a symptom of swollen tonsils.

The defects render the state of infertility in the person's body. Thus the embryological conditions also play a pivotal role in the normal regulation of the body hormones.

The other defects related to this are; injury of the testicles, bicycle riding, orchitis, the torsion in the testicles, testicular cancer, mumps orchitis, Varicocele, Varicose of the spermatic cord, scrotal hernia, Kidney disfunction, Ingual hernia,
The related organs are the Pubic hair, Testis, Penis, Spermatozoids, The Prostate glands and the adjoining accessory glands.

Symptoms

Most of the signs and the symptoms vary from person to person. Persistent fever, Pain in the scrotal region, pain while micturation, lumps and clots, Viral infections, Bacterial infections, Vasectomy, other surgery, Gonorrhea. The Claymidia. This is a Sexually Transmitted Disease
The enlargement of these is also called the Begnin ProstaticHyperplasia; this generally occurs in the younger men in which the Scrotum is removed during Puberty. The higher contents of the hormone Estrogen in the body may result into this. This encompasses a defect during Micturation, which is urination during night, intermittent and weak flow. This causes a strain in the urinary bladder.

Detection;

The PSA screening, Digital Rectal Exam (DRE) screening, The Rectal Ultrasound: this is to denote the sound waves in the rectum to determine the rectal cancer, The Urine Flow Study, Intra-venous Plyogram (IVP): with the insertion of a Dye the urine is observed under the X-ray and determines the cause of the blocked bladder, Cystoscopy: this determines the cause of the lost sensation in the penis, Prostate specific Antigen.

Treatment;

Drug treatment; Finasteride, Terazopin, Tamsoluin, Alpha Blockers. These are not the preventive but are the curative ones.

Non-surgical methods

Non-surgical treatment, Trans Urethral Microwave Procedures, Transurethal Urethral ablation also called the TUNA system, Surgical Treatement, Open Surgery, Laser treatment .one should drink lots of water to retain the water economy in the body for the medicines to show its effect. These can only be beneficial with the stringent witnessing of the improvements shown by the medicines.

The prostate is a walnut-sized gland, which is located below the bladder and in front of the rectum. It secretes seminal fluid, a milky substance, which combines with sperm to form semen. During sexual climax, the muscles in the prostate propel the semen through the urethra and out through the penis. Prostate swelling or prostatitis is a term used to describe inflammatory conditions of the prostate gland. It is thought that most cases of prostate swelling are a result of bacterial infection, but evidence of infection is not always found. An infected or inflamed prostate can cause painful urination and ejaculation, and if untreated, serious complications.
Prostate swelling can affect men of any age and it is estimated that 50% of men experience this disorder during their lifetime. It is the most common urological disorder in men over the age of 50 and the third most common disorder in men younger than 50 years.

Prostate swelling can affect men of any age and it is estimated that 50% of men experience this disorder during their lifetime. It is the most common urological disorder in men over the age of 50 and the third most common disorder in men younger than 50 years.

Diagnosis Of Prostate Swelling -
Digital rectal exam (DRE) -
It is used for determining if the prostate gland is tender or swollen. To perform a DRE, the physician inserts a lubricated, gloved finger into the rectum to feel the surface of the prostate gland through the rectal wall and then assess its size, shape, and consistency.

Three-part urinalysis -

It is a standard diagnostic tool. Two urine specimens are collected and analyzed, followed by prostate massage and then a third urine sample which contains prostatic fluid. During prostate massage, the physician inserts a lubricated, gloved finger into the rectum to massage the surface of each lobe of the prostate, resulting in the release of prostate fluids. Prostate massage is not to be used if ABP is suspected because massage may encourage the spread of bacteria. Urinalysis verifies the presence of white blood cells (leukocytes) in the urine. Leukocytes help the body to fight infection and there high number indicates a bacterial infection. A urine culture is then performed for identifying bacteria.
Nonbacterial prostate swelling is diagnosed when tests show no bacteria in the urine or prostatic secretions. There is no test for diagnosing prostatodynia (occurrence of prostatitis symptoms, without bacterial infection or inflammation); this is diagnosed after eliminating other probable causes like kidney stones, urethral cancer etc.

What Is Uvula?

The uvula is a small cone-shaped mass of tissue that hangs down from the soft palate, near the back of the throat. The word 'uvula' is derived from the diminutive of uva, the Latin word for "grape", due to the uvula's grape-like shape. The uvula plays an essential role in the creation of the sound of the human voice. It functions in tandem with the back of the throat, the palate, and air coming up from the lungs for creating a number of guttural and other sounds. The uvula also contributes to snoring – having an elongated uvula can lead to vibrations which lead to the snoring. In some cases this can lead to sleep apnea, which can be treated by removal of the uvula or part of the uvula if necessary.

During swallowing, the soft palate and the uvula move superiorly to close off the nasopharynx, thus preventing food from entering into the nasal cavity. Splitting of the uvula occurs infrequently but is one of the most common form of mouth and nose area cleavage among newborns with nearly 2% of infants have this bifid or split uvula.

Learning about Swollen Uvula

Swollen Uvula is a condition where the mucous membrane around the uvula may swell, causing the uvula to expand 3-5 times its normal size. When the uvula touches the throat or tongue, it can lead to sensations like gagging or choking, even though there is no foreign matter present. This can develop problems in breathing, talking, and eating.

There are many theories about what causes the swelling in uvula. This includes dehydration (from arid weather and/or alcohol), excessive smoking or other inhaled irritants, snoring, allergic reaction or a viral or bacterial infection.

If the swelling has been caused by dehydration, drinking of plenty of fluids is advised. If the cause is a bacterial infection, gargling with iodized salt water may help you as the iodine in the salt will help to cleanse the infection.

It is important to note that a swollen uvula in normal conditions is not life-threatening and subsides in a short time, typically within a day. However, it some cases it can also be a sign of other problems. If the swelling does not subside at all within 8-12 hours, and if it's accompanied by other symptoms like fever or pain, it is best to get it checked by your health care provider.

The treatment differs in the both types of swelling. The swelling can be treated at home and the swelling can take two to ten days to be healed completely.

The reasons and symptoms of the groin swelling:

There are many reasons of the groin swelling. The main reason of the groin swelling is the infection in the groin or in any part of the groin. The infection can also be transmitted from one part to another part. The other reasons remain the bugs stings, diabetes and cancer. There can be some other reasons. The swelling in the groin mostly is the result of the lymph node swelling. The groin is made of many individual parts of the body. The symptoms of each part are different. The symptoms of these parts are mainly the same. The symptoms of the penis and testicles swelling is inflammation, enlargement and the burn in the inner part of the groin. The clit or vulva in the ladies can show the symptoms of itch, enlargement and the inflammation.

Ways to prevent the groin swelling:

There are hardly any ways to prevent the groin swelling. The only precaution you can take is to keep the groin clean. If the groin is clean then it will be protected from the infection, however there is no guarantee. The other reasons are not preventable. In the case the swelling is a result of cancer and diabetes, you can take the precautions to prevent the cancer and diabetes. You can try to heal the swelling at home but in the case of severe swelling you are advised to see a doctor.

Liposuction is a process that can help sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas, including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck. During the long-ago decade, liposuction, which is also known as lipoplasty or suction lipectomy, has benefited from several new refinements. Today, a number of new techniques, comprising ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty, the tumescent technique, and the super-wet technique, are helping many plastic surgeons to provide selected patients with more precise results and quicker recovery times. Even though no type of liposuction is a substitute for dieting and exercise, liposuction can remove stubborn areas of fat that don't respond to traditional weight-loss methods.

Best candidates for liposuction

To be a good candidate for liposuction, you must have realistic prospect about what the procedure can do for you. It's important to appreciate that liposuction can enhance your appearance and self confidence, but it won't necessarily change your looks to match your ideal or cause other people to treat you differently. Before you make a decision to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with your surgeon. The best candidates for liposuction are normal-weight people with firm, elastic skin who have pockets of excess fat in certain places. You should be bodily healthy, psychologically stable and realistic in your expectations. Your age is not a major consideration; though, older patients may have diminished skin elasticity and may not achieve the same results as a younger patient with tighter skin. Liposuction carries higher risk for individuals with medical problems such as diabetes, significant heart or lung disease, poor blood circulation, or those who have recently had surgery near the area to be contoured.

Planning for surgery

In your initial consultation, your surgeon will assess your health, determine where your fat deposits lie and assess the condition of your skin. Your surgeon will give details the body-contouring methods that may be most appropriate for you. For example, if you consider you want liposuction in the abdominal area, you may learn that an abdominoplasty or "tummy tuck" may more effectively meet your goals; or that a combination of traditional liposuction and UAL would be the best choice for you.

Learning About Taste Buds and Their Swelling -

Taste buds explained

Taste buds are small structures on the upper surface of the tongue, soft palate, and epiglottis, which provide information about the taste of food being eaten. A taste bud will consist of a group of receptor cells, and each cell is topped with a fine, hair-like projection called a microvillus. The receptor cells are connected to a mesh of nerves, which transmit taste to the major nerve bundles including the facial nerve and the glosso-pharyngeal nerve. From there, the taste information is then sent to the brain and combined with olfactory information from the nose. Contrary to popular belief, the main organ of taste is the nose and not the tongue. Our sense of smell is thought to be about 10,000 times more acute than our sense of taste, which is why we cannot detect most food flavors when we are suffering from cold or blocked sinuses.

The human tongue has around 10,000 taste buds. The majority of these taste buds sit on raised protrusions of the tongue surface called papillae. These are of four different types – Fungiform papillae, filiform papillae, foliate papillae and Vallate papillae. It is known that there are five taste sensations – sweet, bitter, Unami that work with a signal through a G-protein coupled receptor and salty and sour, that work with ion channels.

Swollen Taste Buds – An Overview

Swollen taste buds can be caused by a number of things. Very hot food that burns and irritates a taste bud can result into its swelling. Allergies to specific foods (depending upon the person) can also cause taste buds to swell. Taste buds that taste sweets are located on the tip of the tongue and salt taste buds are on the two side areas of the tongue tip. Sour taste buds are situated on the lateral sides of the tongue and bitter taste buds on the back of the tongue. The area of the tongue where the swollen taste bud is located can help in knowing which taste is involved. A swollen taste bud can also be a result of continually eating spicy foods that constantly over-stimulate these sense organs. Another common cause of swollen taste buds is trauma from biting the tongue.

The medication of the liver swelling generally depends upon the cause of the swelling. For example if the liver swelling is caused by the infection, or by the alcohol than the swelling is method of treatment is to heal the infection. And the swelling automatically slows down. But, if the swelling is caused by the cancer or leukemia than the treatment is different than, that of the swelling caused by the infection.

What to do if you are suffering from the liver swelling

If the prescribed symptoms are evident than it is more advisable to consult a doctor if you are suffering from the liver cancer. It can be difficult and also dangerous to treat the liver infection at home. Although the liver swelling is not a serious problem but the pain which you have to suffer makes the swelling unbearable.

Swelling of the feet and its symptoms

Scientifically this disease is referred to as edema. In this condition the fluid present in the muscle tissues of the feet undergoes an excessive build up and results in a rapid increase of the feet within a very short span of time. In some cases the swelling is accompanied with shortness of breadth, excessive gain in weight of the feet, or damages in the epidermis or upper layer of the skin. The swelling is mainly caused by the fluid build up within the muscle tissues and when the gravity pulls the fluid to the lower parts of the body like the ankles and the feet resulting those parts to swell rapidly. However the swelling does not comes up with pain particularly in older people who are in the age group of 55-75 as researches reveal.

Causes of swelling

Reasons which may lead to the swelling of the feet are clotting of blood in the lower parts of the body, infections of the legs, sunburns, certain medications like excessive intake of hormones such as estrogen & testosterone, steroids, antidepressants & tricyclics or drugs that lower the blood pressure. In some cases swelling of the feet are also observed due to inefficiency of the veins to pump the blood back to the heart efficiently. Commonly it also may be the outcome of increased age, being overweight or a previous injury in the feet. In women, the swelling may be the outcome of menstrual periods or pregnancy in which excessive swelling occurs due to the inflammations of the veins or high blood pressure. This is also called as toxemia in medical terms. Diseases such as elephantiasis may also cause inflammation or swelling of the foot. Although the swelling of the feet are painless but they may act as messengers to certain acute problems of the body such as failure of the heart, kidney or liver.

Preventive measures and medical attention

Some common preventive measures and cautiousness can prove helpful in fighting the swelling easily if the symptoms are not that serious. Avoiding sitting or standing for a longer period, stretching or exercising of legs regularly, avoiding wearing of restrictive or tight clothing and garters around the thighs or the lower parts of the body can really prove fruitful. Elevating the legs while sleeping or lying down and a low salt diet are other steps which help in reducing the fluid retention and preventing the swelling. In case of a decreased output in urine, a considerable increase in temperature of the feet and reddening of the feet or a sudden increase in the swelling immediate medical treatment should be sought.

Gum Swelling can also be called as Gingival Swelling. Swollen gums are unusually enlarged, stuffed, or protruding. Gum swelling is quite common and may involve one or many papillae (the triangular-shaped bits of gum between adjacent teeth). Sometimes, the gums swell significantly, obscuring the teeth altogether. It is a quite common cause of toothache. Gum disease refers to inflammation of the soft tissue (gingiva) and unusual loss of bone that surrounds the teeth and holds them in place. Gum disease is caused by toxins secreted by bacteria in "plaque" that accumulate over time along the gum line. Plaque is a mixture of food, saliva, and bacteria. Early symptoms of gum disease include gum bleeding. It can be occurred without any pain. Pain is a symptom of more sophisticated gum disease as the loss of bone around the teeth leads to the creation of gum pockets. Bacteria in these pockets cause gum infection, swelling, pain, and further bone damage. Advanced gum diseases can cause loss of healthy teeth. Gum swelling could also be a way your mouth is telling you that something is wrong with your health. Leukemia or Diabetes can be other reasons for swollen, bleeding gums.

Gum swelling could also be a way your mouth is telling you that something is wrong with your health. Leukemia or Diabetes can be other reasons for swollen, bleeding gums.

Common Causes of Gum Swelling

Some very common causes for swollen gums are infection by a virus or fungus, gingivitis, poor fitting dentures, sensitivity to toothpaste or mouthwash, side effect of a drug such as Dilantin or Phenobarbital, malnutrition, deficiency of vitamin C and pregnancy (in 1st or 2nd trimester). It is quite common and may involve one area of the gums adjoining a tooth or the entire gums in the mouth. There are many other causes of swollen gums that could be as minor as hypersensitivity to chewing gum, reactions to prescription medications or a popcorn kernel logged into the gums. Gum problems can also be hereditary.

Treatment

Treatment of early gum disease involves oral sanitation and removal of bacterial plaque. Moderate to advanced gum disease usually requires a systematic cleaning of the teeth and teeth roots called "root planning" and "sub gingival curettage." Root planning is the removal of plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) from exposed teeth roots while sub gingival curettage refers to the elimination of the surface of the swollen layer of gum tissue. Both the procedures are usually performed under local anesthesia and may be accompanied by the use of oral antibiotics to conquer gum infection or blister. Its treatment may include various types of gum surgeries. In an advance gum disease with significant bone demolition and loosening of teeth, teeth splinting or a teeth extraction may become mandatory.

The vein, that are swollen inside the anus and which the anus look swollen is called Hemorrhoids. They release pain if they come out of the anus with a bowel movement since they are constricted. Once they come out, the skin around them and the veins themselves becomes inflamed. It sounds as if you have tried diet modification to put off constipation. It would also be good to know what your occupation is and what your weight is at that moment of time. These can be factors that add to the development of hemorrhoids.

Symptoms

Sometimes the veins just inside the anus become swollen if there is strain on the vein itself to prevent blood flow from returning to the heart. The veins may become slender by a large amount of stool that stays in the rectum just above the anus in someone who has constipation. Chronic diarrhea leads to hemorrhoids by the same mechanism. Heavy lifting or a chronic cough from asthma, smoking or any chronic lung disease also leads to hemorrhoids because of the increased intra-abdominal pressure. This increased pressure is just like straining at stool in that the pressure obstructs the flow of blood through the veins making them swell. Obesity can also lead to an increased intra-abdominal pressure just by the weight of the abdominal wall. It is related also with hemorrhoids. Pregnancy releases swollen veins and hemorrhoids due to a moderately increased blood volume, and also because the pregnancy itself may slightly block some of the return venous blood flows from the lower pelvis and rectum. Rectoceles can also be related with hemorrhoids when the rectal wall protrudes out of the vagina and obstructs the veins in the wall of the rectum below.

Other symptoms

If one or more of the swollen veins becomes scratched by hard stool, it may lead to bright red bleeding. Frequently, this is painless bleeding and comes out in the toilet bowl water or on toilet paper. Most bright red rectal bleeding is due to hemorrhoids but there is always concern that a rectal cancer could be present so a rectal exam by a physician requires to be performed if there is bleeding. There are two sets of anorectal veins can become dilated, i.e. Internal and external hemorrhoidal veins. The external veins are just inside the anal sphincter whereas the internal veins are slightly higher up in the rectum. If a large internal rectal vein prolapses and falls through the anal sphincter muscle, the vein becomes even more distended and then very aching. Most of the pain of hemorrhoids is caused of prolapsed internal hemorrhoid veins or external veins that are swollen.

Swelling may also be caused by heat-related problems, like heat edema from working or being active in a hot environment. Body fluids may collect in different tissue spaces of the body (localized) or they can affect the whole body (generalized).

Some Causes of Localized Swelling -

A huge list of causes can be drawn for localized swelling; however we shall only be discussing a few common causes. Injury to any specific body area may result into swelling. In case of an under skin or joint infection, an abscess (a pocket of pus that forms at the site of infected tissue) which is a type of swelling is formed. Even inflammation resulting from tissue irritation by overuse or repeated motion can be a common cause for swelling. Swelling of the sac that cushions and lubricates the joint (bursitis) can be caused due to prolonged or repeated pressure or by activities that require repeated twisting or rapid joint movement.

Some Causes of Generalized Swelling -

A few common causes of generalized swelling will include the following -

Allergic reaction -
A sudden swelling of the hands and face can be a result of a severe allergic reaction and will require immediate medical evaluation.

Autoimmune diseases -

Like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and scleroderma can cause swelling when the body produces antibodies and other cells that attack and destroy tissues in the body.

Medications -

Some medications also change the way body fluids circulate, causing swelling.

Both lips are soft, protruding, movable, and the main function is for food intake, as a tactile sensory organ, and in articulation of speech. One can easily differentiate between the Upper (Labium superiors) and lower lip (Labium inferioris). The lower lip is somewhat larger. The lip skin is not hairy and doesn't have sweat glands or sebaceous glands. So, it does not have the usual protection layer of sweat and body oils which keep skin smooth, kill pathogens, and also regulate warmth. For these reasons, the lips dry out faster and are chapped more easily.

So, it does not have the usual protection layer of sweat and body oils which keep skin smooth, kill pathogens, and also regulate warmth. For these reasons, the lips dry out faster and are chapped more easily.

Swelling Of the Upper Lips -

It has been seen that the Lips can (temporarily) swell. The reasons for swollen lips are varied and can be from injuries to side effects of medications or even misalignment of teeth. A swollen upper lip is a sign of possible stomach disorders, which can include heartburn, over-acidity, and ulcers resulting from tile repeated consumption of sugar, caffeine, spices, alcohol, soft drinks, refined flour, potatoes and other nightshades, and other yin extremes. When the stomach becomes loose and swollen, the muscular valve, the cardiac sphincter at the opening of the stomach relaxes or operates ineffectively. Normally, the sphincter is closed when food is in the stomach. The contents of the stomach, including stomach acid, are regurgitated into the esophagus, causing a burning sensation in the chest as also the neck after a meal. This symptom, commonly known as heartburn, affects millions of people everyday.

Diagnosing What Made Your Upper Lips Swell -

If your lips have swollen, check the food that you ate just before this happened. It is very much possible that you suffer from some food allergy or that the food you ate caused the problems stated above leading to the swelling. However there can be a few other possibilities. The swelling on the lips can be a result of an allergy of mattresses and pillows you sleep in, because sometimes they are made of some irritating materials and can cause local allergy signs. If the swelling is persistent, then check if some other parts of the body are also swollen. If they are refer to your doctor, at the earliest.

Breast swelling is a common, non-cancerous condition that affects more than 50% of women at some point in their lives. The most common signs of breast swelling include lumpiness, tenderness, and cysts, areas of thickening, fibrosis, and breast pain. Having fibrocystic breasts, in and of itself, is not a risk factor for breast cancer. However, breast swelling can sometimes make it more difficult to detect a hidden breast cancer with standard examination and imaging techniques. Breast swelling is most common among women between the ages of 30 and 50, although women younger than 30 may also have fibrocystic breasts. Because the condition is related to the menstrual cycle, the symptoms will generally cease after menopause unless a woman is taking hormone replacement therapy. In some cases, breast swelling symptoms may continue past menopause.

More about the breast swelling

The degree to which women experience these symptoms varies vitally. Some women with breast swelling only experience mild breast pain and may not be able to feel any breast lumps when performing breast self-exams. Other women with breast swelling may experience more severe breast pain or tenderness and may feel multiple lumps in their breasts. Most breast swelling lumps are found in the upper, outer quadrant of the breasts, although these lumps can occur anywhere in the breasts. Breast swelling lumps tend to be smooth, rounded, and mobile, though some fibrocystic tissue may have a thickened, irregular feel. The lumps or irregularities associated with breast swelling are often tender to touch and may increase or decrease in size during the menstrual cycle.

Conclusion

In the past, many physicians have referred to breast swelling, or lumpy breasts, as fibrocystic breast disease. This term is misleading because breast swelling condition is not a disease at all. Rather, it is an ordinary, non-cancerous breast condition that affects over half of all women at some point in their lives. Today, most physicians refer to this condition as breast swelling condition or breast swelling change. Other terms that may be used to describe the state include cystic disease, chronic cystic mastitis, or mammary dysphasia. In fact; since breast swellings are so common among women during their reproductive years, some physicians do not even like to label the symptoms as a condition. They believe that these women just have lumpier and tenderer breasts than others.

This gland is shaped like a butterfly and lies at the front of the neck. It has two kinds of cells that make hormones. Follicular cells make thyroid hormone and C cells make calcitonin. The thyroid hormone affects heart rate, body temperature, and energy level and the calcitomin helps to control the level of calcium in the blood. Sometimes there is a swelling in this gland that is called the thyroid swelling.

The thyroid hormone affects heart rate, body temperature, and energy level and the calcitomin helps to control the level of calcium in the blood. Sometimes there is a swelling in this gland that is called the thyroid swelling.

What are the symptoms of the thyroid swelling:

There are many reasons of thyroid swelling. The usual cause is harmless formation of cells or the overgrowth or degeneration of the gland cells. The thyroid can also enlarge due to mild inflammation that is called the thyroid swelling. It also sometimes happens due to the viral infection. Cysts and harmless tumors are often responsible for a single thyroid lump. Cancerous malignant growths are rare, but it is also a reason for the thyroid swelling.

How does it occur and the treatment of the thyroid swelling: the problem of the thyroid swelling can be inherited from the earlier generations. Thyroid swelling may also happen at certain times of life such as infancy, puberty or pregnancy. At this time the body needs more thyroid hormone, and the gland is expected to work that much harder. In some people, goiter appears in the neck. Too little iodine in the diet causes these goiters. To diagnose the thyroid swelling the blood tests are done to check whether the hormone levels are normal. Sometimes the thyroid scan is performed, to get an idea of the size and shape of the thyroid. There are many ways to treat the thyroid swelling but the most common medication is the radioactive method and the thyroxin tablets. In some of the worst cases the operation is also performed.

Lymph edema is the buildup of fluid known as lymph in the tissues under your skin when something blocks its normal flow. This leads to swelling, most commonly in an arm or leg. Lymph generally does an important job for your body. It carries foreign material and bacteria away from your skin and body tissues, and it circulates infection-fighting cells, which are part of your immune system. Lymph flows slowly through the network of vessels known as your lymphatic system, stopping at points along the way to be filtered through lymph nodes. Lymph first collects by coming out of your cells into the smallest lymphatic vessels near the skin. After traveling all through the small vessels, lymph drains into deeper, wider lymph channels that run through the body. Ultimately, lymph fluid returns to the blood.

More of the swollen arm- Lymph edema

Lymph edema is not the same as edema, which is another state that causes arm or leg swelling. In both problems there is too much fluid in the limb, but only lymph edema leads to a blocked drainage. Without a blockage, the fluid can be forced forward in your lymphatic system, so you can see pitting small temporary indentations left on the skin after you press on the swollen area. Pitting does not take place when you press on skin if you have lymph edema. In many of the cases of lymph edema, the lymphatic system has been injured so that the flow of lymph is blocked either temporarily or permanently. Ordinary causes include surgical damage or surgical cuts and the removal of lymph nodes can interfere with normal lymph flow. Sometimes, lymph edema appears instantaneously after surgery and goes away quickly. In other cases, lymph edema develops from one month to fifteen years after a surgical process.

Conclusion

Lymph edema is most usually seen in people who have had surgery for breast cancer. Lymph edema also may take place after surgery for prostate or testicular cancer, melanoma and cancer in the lower abdomen. An infection involving the lymphatic vessels, rarely, a bacterial infection that leads to a red stripe on the arm or leg can be severe enough to cause lymph edema. In areas of the tropics and subtropics, such as South American, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia and the South Pacific, a parasite generally causes lymph edema. Filariasis, a parasitic worm infection, blocks the lymph channels and leads to swelling and thickening below the skin, usually in the legs. Filariasis is hardly seen in the United States, except in people who emigrated from tropical areas.

Anything that irritates the eyes can also irritate the eyelids and lead to swelling. The most familiar cause of irritation is an allergy, which can make one or both lids crinkled or swollen. Allergic reactions may be caused due to cosmetics, pollen or other particles in the air, metals such as nickel, or drugs placed into the eye as eye drops. Stings or bites from insects or infections from bacteria, viruses, or fungi can also reason the eyelids to swell. Trichinosis, due to a roundworm infection, can also reason the eyelids to swell. Hereditary angioedema, a genetic disorder, may reason episodes of eyelid swelling. Dry eyes may get on your nerves both the eyeball and eyelids.

Cause of swelling

Removing the reason of swelling, where possible and applying cold compresses may relieve the swelling. If an allergy is the reason, avoiding the allergen can relieve the swelling and reduce the risk of future episodes. Antihistamines may help, and a doctor may also set down a corticosteroid ointment for the eyelid. If a foreign object, such as a bug stinger, is lodged in the eyelid, it must be removed. Bacterial infections are treated through an antibiotic; fungal infections are treated through an antifungal drug. Hereditary angioedema has unambiguous treatment. Eyelid swelling can be dispersing or solid, acute or chronic, isolated or part of a syndrome. The differential diagnosis of solid, chronic, and isolated eyelid bulge comprises tumors of multiple origins.

Conclusion

On clinical grounds it is generally easy to distinguish between preseptal cellulitis, a cutaneous infection not threatening to vision, and orbital cellulitis, a potentially vision threatening infection of the orbital tissues generally arising from Para nasal sinusitis. We lately cared for two patients with a clinical diagnosis of preseptal cellulitis who had CT scan evidence of subperiosteal abscess. Antibiotic therapy alone resulted in clinical decree in each case. A swollen eyelid is not a diagnosis but quite a sign of an underlying disorder. Two potentially grave causes of red, swollen eyelids are preseptal and orbital cellulitis. Many distended eyelids will be associated with blepharitis or a hordeolum. If the bulge is localized to a "bump" on the lid, this may be indicative of a chalazion. Prolapse of orbital fat, usually associated with aging, is usually found on the inside corner of the upper eyelid. Urticaria or angioedema are uncommon causes of red, swollen eyelids and are immune-mediated. A accumulation of the lacrimal gland is also rare.
