Cerebral palsy speech- Affecting Lives of People

Cerebral palsy is defined as group of chronic disorders that affect the body movements and muscle co-ordination. It is caused by damage to one or more specific areas to the brain, during birth or a few days after the birth. Children with cerebral palsy or CP may not be able to use the muscles in their body in a normal way. It is characterized by an inability to fully control the motor function, due to lack of supply of oxygen or accidents affecting your brain. Cerebral palsy is a non-communicable, non-progressive disease. Children having this disorder will have it for their entire lives.

Effects on speech due to CP: -

There are various parts of the body that are affected due to cerebral palsy. Depending on the disorder and the damage caused to the brain cases like muscle tightness, involuntary movement, disturbance in mobility, abnormal sensation, sight or sound or speech affecting could occur along with other side effects such as retardness, irregular body posture and many such conditions.

Speech is one the most common areas that is affected with other disabilities. A person affected with cerebral palsy is not able to speak properly as result of which his communication with other people is hampered. The damage of the brain interferes with the muscles in the body as the brain is not able to send proper signals to the muscles. Sometimes the signals passed on by the brain don't even reach its proper destination. Tongue is a muscle which needs signals from the brain in order to function it properly. Since in CP the brain of that person is affected, they cannot speak properly. So a lack of communication with other people also hampers the progress of that particular person.

CP is neither a life threatening condition, nor does it has any type of barriers affecting the progress of a person affected with the disorder. Cerebral palsy cannot be cured, but efforts can be made in order to minimize its effects. There are many foundations and organizations that help the people affected in speech in CP to minimize their problems by conducting proper classes. This could certainly help these people lead a better, happier and a progressive life.
