Types of heart rates:

A heart rate is a count of heart beats in a minute. Heart rate affects the functioning of heart. A normal heart rate indicates a healthy cardiovascular system. Many factors such as heart diseases, physical activity, stress or heart disorders can cause high heart rate. There are three types of heart rates that can be measured at different activity levels that show proper functioning of the heart. One is the normal resting heart rate, second is the working heart rate and last is the recovery heart rate. These heart rates determine and help the control of stress or activities to bring the count of heart rate to normal to ensure good health.

Normal resting heart rate:

The heart rate measured when you are sitting quietly for a while or when your heart is beating normally just after having a good sleep or in a relaxed position is known as normal resting heart rate. The normal resting heart rate is less than 84 bpm or in other words it is 15 to 20 bpm less than your normal heart rate. Normal resting heart rates vary from person to person. The best time to calculate normal resting heart rate is just before you get out of your bed in the morning after a good night's sleep. The heart rate adapts to changes in the body's need for oxygen during exercise or sleep. A resting heart rate can also rise and fall especially with age. A resting heart rate is also used to calculate an athlete's training target heart rate. These athletes use their resting heart rate counts to determine if they are over training. Physically fit athletes have lower resting heart rates. Also a person who is in good aerobic condition has a lower resting heart rate.

Measuring heart rate:

Normal resting heart rate can be measured by keeping an index and middle finger on one side of the neck and pressing gently to get the count of heart beats. Or else it can also be measured by using any heart rate monitors that vary in brands and models. Although sometimes no symptoms can occur to cause changes in heart rate, it is better to know your resting heart rate. Any changes in this heart rate can help you treat the cause and avoid future complications of the heart.
