Swollen Nose
The nose being a very important organ in the body acts as a smelling organ and passageway for air and a protector of lungs (as it heats, humidifies and filters the inhaled air before it sending it to the lungs). It performs a major role of sensing and smelling and capturing a wide range of sensations essential for proper brain functioning and behavior.
A nose that is crippled or swollen and thereby unable to function properly can have a significant impact on the daily body and brain functions and behavior, thereby greatly affecting a person's personal and social life.

In case of an injury, the nose may become deformed and crooked and swelling may be seen. Any injury resulting in a cut or puncture of the skin anywhere near or around the nose (bacteria can cause infection through the cut or puncture in the skin), a blood clot causes the nasal passage to block, dislocation of the nose from its position, continuous drainage from the nostril / s needs immediate medical attention.

MRSA is a condition usually seen among the hospital staff, where the nasal region is infected by the bacteria called Staphylococci. Infection may happen when one comes in contact with a patient or any of the patient's things that are contaminated. This condition is characterized by cracked (resulting from dry skin or eczema), swollen and sore nose, with bits of blood appearing when one blows the nose. Avoiding direct contact with patients and maintaining cleanliness will help.
Nasal Congestion
It is a condition where the nasal passage gets blocked when membranes in the nose swell due to inflammation of the blood vessels. Nasal congestion in children may also affect the ears, hearing and speech in children. Sinusitis, allergy, common cold, influenza, hay fever are the causes. It can be treated by consuming enough fluids and water. If the cause is influenza or common cold, it can be treated with medications. It the cause is allergens leading to hay fever and other allergic reactions, it can be treated by the removal of allergens, antihistamines and decongestants.
