Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, which is found in many forms. Our body needs I because it helps in the growth of teeth and bones. It is produced in our body itself with the help of sunlight. Milk, fish and egg do contain vitamin D. lack of vitamin D causes several bone diseases like Rickets, Osteoporosis, Osteomalacia, etc. Rickets is a disease, which affects children. It badly affects the growth and deformity of bones.

Its role in prevention from cancer

Two characteristics of cancer cells are their lack of separation and their quick growth or production. A lot of malignant tumors have been found to hold vitamin D receptors including breast, lung, skin, bone, etc. Many forms of vitamin D have ability to induce cell separation and inhabit proliferation of cancerous and non-cancerous cells maintained in cell culture. If a certain amount of vitamin D is consumed daily then it cuts the risk of breast cancer, colon cancer and ovary cancer by up to a half. The proof for the protective effect of the "sunshine vitamin" is so irresistible that immediate action must be taken by public health authorities to boost blood levels, say cancer specialists. A growing body of evidence in recent years has shown that lack of vitamin D may have fatal effects. Heart disease, lung disease, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, schizophrenia and multiple sclerosis are among the situation in which it is said to play a vital role. It is also necessary for bone health and protects against rickets in children and osteoporosis in the elderly.

Precaution regarding vitamin D

The study accepted that large doses of vitamin D should be treated with carefulness. They failed to give any mechanism for how low levels of vitamin D are really linked to high incidence of cancer. More than 2,000 IU – 50 micrograms of vitamin D a day can lead to the body captivating too much calcium, damaging the liver and kidneys. In the lack of sunshine, a valuable level of vitamin D could be obtained from a combination of food sources and supplements. Dark-skinned people, though, need more exposure to create sufficient amounts of vitamin D, and some fair-skinned people shouldn't try to get any vitamin D from the sun. The easiest and most trustworthy way of getting the proper amount is from food and a daily supplements.
