Vitamin D is one of the groups of vitamins. This vitamin is a fat soluble vitamin and is insoluble in water. It regulates calcium and phosphorus levels in the body. It absorbs calcium from the different parts of the body and ad equates blood levels. This vitamin absorbs all the minerals from the intestine and other parts of the body. Deficiency occurs when there is a lack of this vitamin.

Deficiencies of vitamin D

Deficiency usually occurs to those people who are vegetarians as most of this vitamin is found in fatty fishes more than milk products. Rickets is the disease caused due to lack of this vitamin in children. Due to this there is less of calcium in taken and this causes bone pain, dental problem and muscles loss. It may be very dangerous for a child's body as it may become very weak. The other disease is osteoporosis in which the bones accumulate when they are growing. Due to this there may be a bone loss in future. Osteomalacia is also one of the deficiencies and this mainly occurs in adults. This involves softening of the bones. This is called rickets when it happens in children. Deficiency in this vitamin also causes depression, diabetes, birth defects, chronic pain, hypertension, heart disease, strokes and other diseases.
