Briefly about vitamin D
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin and mostly found in eggs and fishes; it is highly nutritious for the body. Vitamin D acts as a catalyst in our body and activates various metabolic processes. The essential metabolites formed are carbohydrates and fatty acids, which is very helpful for the body. Vitamin D is mostly related with calcium and phosphorous content of the body. Calcium and phosphorous are also very important and helps in all round development of the body. Calcium is mainly responsible for keeping the bones healthy and its deficiency causes various disorders in bones. Taking various dietary supplements rich in vitamin D can enhance vitamin D level in the body. In some cases various medicines, which are rich in vitamin, are also taken to bring the body up to normal level as vitamin D is concerned. Vitamin D can also be obtained from sunlight and therefore daily exposure to sunlight for some time is important to keep the body free of disorder in bones.
Side effects of vitamin D
Vitamin D supplements should be taken in moderate quantities as excessive amount of vitamin give rise to various disorders due to change in the metabolic process. When the vitamin D supplements exceed the normal level, calcium absorption increases and the amount the calcium in the blood increases. This increased level of calcium in blood results into deposition of calcium in the soft tissues and can lead to failure of vital organs. Arteriosclerosis and ischemic heart disease are the commonly known side effects of vitamin D . The disturbances in the intake of vitamin D may also lead to a disorder in eye. This is known as glaucoma. It is a disorder of eye due to increase in the glucose level. This is characterized by frequent secretion of watery fluid from the eye. Increased level of vitamin D also increases the risk of cancer. The women with increased level of vitamin D develop risk for breast Cancer whereas male develops risk for prostate and colon cancer. Osteoporosis and arthritis are the disorder of bones caused due to deficiency of vitamin D but sometimes these disorders cn also be felt when vitamin D intake increases marginally. Calcification, dry skins are the other important disorders created due to increse in quantity of vitamin D .
